Do u have any ideas on which coach can get us that kind of talent in those 5 years? And remember people on here said we won’t get elite players because of Nil.
I think progress in the program in either direction is based on hope. If Kellie stays, we HOPE she can turn it around and get better recruits. Yes, Nyla and Finley seem to be great, but it is going to take way more than that. This year alone, we saw a phenomenal if not generational talent like Rickea unable to get us back. If we get a new coach, we HOPE they can be the one and can do better recruiting and winning. The first option of HOPE for Kellie is at the point where it seems to be diminishing due to current evidence, while currently the second option of hope has no evidence one way or another. I don’t think there is a guarantee either way, but one you have some data on and the other you don’t.

I've never thought 'a lot of people', esp average fans like us, will make much difference. They need professional donor development of a few deep pockets.

I'd just like to see it set up for whoever the coach is in the future. It will be alot easier to get a home run hire if NIL is in place.

That said, I believe we are in an NIL no man's land right now until things get straightened out and clarified. Everyone knows it's not going to stay the Wild West it is now. For the women, the role of Title IX will be a big factor.
But big dog donors didn’t get big dog money making bets on things they don’t believe in?

You don’t bet in Vegas on things you think have little chance of paying off…Hence the problem for people with big money and NIL. If I had big money the last 1.1 seconds of the USCjr game would not convince me to get off the porch.

I’m not defending Kelly at all, I just have a feeling Chastain will be special and want to see her here. Do u have any names of coaches u think can turn it around quickly that would realistically come here?
If she’s “special” she’ll be gone to a bigger program. Realistically it’s trending CKH will be gone before Chastain leaves HS.

This (and the last couple of pages) triggered the memory I had of the discussion of whether or not we should fire Fulmer in 2008. We had data on Fulmer, but no evidence either way of the second option. Be careful of the path you choose. It's a gamble either way.

My swing for the fences type of hire

1. Dawn Staley. I think the article this year about pay her $5 million and watch her restore the program had some legit reasons why she could be interested.

2. Becky Hammond- makes $1million a year with the Las Vegas aces. Does she want to leave the WBNA? We could triple her salary and see.

Would immediately elevate the program above where it is today:

1. Lindsay Gottlieb
2. Cori Close
3. Nikki Collen
4. Jeff Walz
5. Lisa Fortier
6. Rick Insell
7. Yolett McPhee-McCuin
8. Teri Moren

Who could replicate her current success but probably be fired in 5 years too:

1. Bill Fennelly
2 Kara Lawson
3-35. Any sitting P5 coach at a school currently in the big dance.

The 1st 2 names are who I mentioned, I don’t think any of the others will turn it around immediately.

They may not turn it around immediately but they could. It’s worth the risk imo, because they’re not realistically going to do any worse. We know what we’re getting with Kellie. There’s 20 years of data points. She’s won her conference one time in 20 years (2006). That’s 5%. My grandfather used to tell me “when someone shows you who they are, believe them.” Lady Vol fans need to set the emotion aside and realize it’s a business decision.

I don’t like him, regardless of the positions he holds, but I do understand he has an audience, a platform, and a voice. When someone has those things, what they say becomes amplified. If the noise grows it snowballs, so if he calls for her job that’s going to have some power.
He said a few weeks ago Danny White was no where close to firing Kellie
And the people he knows who are insiders said the same thing.
He said if they Tennessee was worse next year.
He hope they would may a change
John Adams that was on off the hock

Yep, it’s a gamble. Just like any big business these days, which college athletics are, there are no guarantees when you hire the next CEO. You can either stay the course and hope like heck that the old CEO can turn it around against current evidence or that the next CEO can bring in new ideas to turn it around. We had Mike Hamilton in place for Football, God rest his soul, and we made a poor decision after that led to football not competing for championships for years. You have to hope that the next decision for the Lady Vols is the right one.

Moore is the coach we should have hired when Pat stepped down. I think he’s said he would never coach at Tennessee, but we all know money talks.

He would have been a home run hire imo because he was older and has the personality and likability that would please the blue hairs. And he’s also a fantastic coach who wins way more than he loses which would have pleased young fans and former LVs.

Being stuck on having a LVFL lead Pats program is what has us in this position we are in. That was the wrong move from the jump. Pat built that program with help from lots of great players over the years. Not a single one of them was qualified to follow in her footsteps as head coach. Holly most of all, who thought it was a good idea to hand the program to someone who had never been a head coach in 30 years?
Couldn't agree more! Wes Moore should have been hired at U.T. at whatever the cost. I watched him lead the UTC women's program for years and he won championships consistently. It took a Hall of Fame Coach in Jim Foster to replicate his success. After he left, we followed Jim up with a former great UTC player (sound familiar??) and she absolutely sucked as a coach. She was replaced two years ago with Shawn Poppie who won the conference tournament in his FIRST year and then the season and tournament championship this year, his second year. Now, it will be officially announced today that he will be the next head coach at Clemson. He would have been great in Knoxville!!

As for those throwing Dawn Staley's name around.... let it be known that the A.D. at South Carolina does not like Dawn in the least and would let her go, pending any Sciano-type revolt by the fans. She is currently making $3M/year, unless the A.D. was forced to raise Dawn's salary to keep ahead of Lamont's salary when he got his recent extension.

The death of the Lady Vols program will be the ridiculous insistence that we "keep it in the family" by continuing to hire former players. That is something that I just don't understand. Heupel is not a former Vol player, neither is Barnes or Vitello. They all seem to be doing pretty well, huh?

Don’t jump on me. I can make arguments for keep or fire. You are obviously 100% keep and don’t consider any alternative thoughts.

So with this being a discussion board, what would a non successful season where you would say after 5 years it is time for her to go look like?

Really curious how those who are 100% keep with no consideration or even discussion and believe the product and direction are correct and heading in right direction…just what an unsuccessful season and reason to let go would look like?

Since you mentioned goal posts.

I am really in neither crowd(Fire or Keep) before I get blasted. There are things I think have to change in program to see improvement and there are flashes of progress but…

What goals does Lucy and other must keep CKJH have for the program? It seems there are some never fire on here so I would love for some like yourself to tell us what you must see in each of the next three years to justify staying with CKJH?

I have asked this question twice different ways, but I am going for the strikeout and ask a third time to see if just one of the “Never Fire, Give More Time CKJH supporters” will step up and answer the question instead of just flaming any CKJH critics.

Again, I am not a Fire or Keep. That’s why I am on a discussion board trying to have healthy discussions.

Can one of you “Never Fire, Give More Time CKJH supporters” please tell me since you think CKJH is headed in the right direction what the mileposts/goalposts she should be measured against moving forward. Please clearly spell out what to quote @Lucy your goalposts if they are not met would be for the program that would cause you to eventually say CKJH is not getting the job done in years:

2024-2025

2025-2026

2026-2027

I eagerly await just one “Never Fire, Give More Time CKJH supporters” to take their orange colored glasses off and answer.

I’ll give them credit, they care about restoring that program. KY went 12-19, and 12-20 the last two years and just pulled a coach who:

“Brooks built the Hokies into a champion brand, guiding the program to its first ACC tournament title in 2023 and first ACC regular-season championship in 2024. While in Blacksburg, Brooks compiled a 180-82 overall record, which includes a school-record 31 wins in 2022-23 that culminated in the program's first-ever Final Four appearance.

In his eight seasons at the helm of the Hokies, Brooks produced at least 20 wins seven times while steering Tech to the NCAA tournament four straight seasons (2021-2024).”

Teri Moren has to be at the top of the list or near the very top. What she’s done at Indiana in her time there has been amazing, and she sure as hell knows how to develop players.
Teri is a brilliant coach with what she has been able to accomplish at IU with little to no support from the school. The biggest question is recruiting, but she has been able to turn what she has into very good players. I do wonder what she could do at a school that cares about women’s basketball.
