Our team is just different, the speed is a big thing but they also lack situational awareness, toughness, and mental mistakes. Too many times I’ve seen a loose ball and some of our players never run to it, or they let players make easy layups without contesting or fouling, it’s like they don’t care or just give up. I can name more things but this post will be too long, we just need players that want to win and have a refuse to lose attitude and not just players that are happy to be playing on a team.Do you think it’s also some system adjustments that cover for a team’s lack of speed and athleticism too? I wouldn’t say Clark is a great defensive player though she is transcendental on the offensive side,, yet the team seems to hold decent teams to at least less than what they are scoring. Indiana is another team that I think the system they run seems to help them cover for shortcomings.
If NC State was at home/neutral we win. Simple. I’ve never been in an arena so loud. You could tell the players couldn’t hear each other or the bench throughout the game. All I’ll say is you don’t fire Kellie without the next coach being a guaranteed done deal.
You don’t fire consistent 20 win season SS coaches.
I fully expect a “lighter” schedule next year
We still don’t know what we’re getting out the portal but I’m hearing things are moving.
Was yesterday disappointing sure… but be honest . I really think Kellie grew as a coach this year. Would be a waste to throw next year away.
Also I’m so tired of most of u. You trash Kellie. Trash the players. Don’t give them credit for what they did do and don’t see how much adversity and injury this team faced.
Fully expecting Key and Jewel and Tess to announce here soon after they take a few day off from a hard season.
I don’t care about the schedule that much, k can]re about the players. If we have a stacked team the schedule won’t matter. Now if we don’t have a stacked team and have a soft schedule like a team like Vanderbilt we might end up like them and barely make the tournament. All I’ll say is you don’t fire Kellie without the next coach being a guaranteed done deal.

Yet Kellie has been more successful at UT in her first 5 seasons than he was in his first 5 at VT. Looks like a better hire to me.

Maybe slower reaction times? Or do you think it’s missed evals? Or do you see it as a refuse to lose mentality lacking? I think most of the girls want to win so I lean to maybe just slower reaction times combined with basketball IQ.Our team is just different, the speed is a big thing but they also lack situational awareness, toughness, and mental mistakes. I watch very closely and 2 players can be at the same spot and the other team goes for it and some of our players don’t try, it can be slow reaction time or just giving up, in any case they shouldn’t be playing any meaningful mins. I think everyone wants to win, but it’s a mindset u meed to have. I don’t know I just like players that have killer will and losing fuels them because it’s unacceptable. If u need an example of that kind of player for reference just look at a player like Hannah Hidalgo, that type of will and competitiveness needs to be on our roster.Maybe slower reaction times? I do love Hidalgo. She does have that “dog” in her, but she is also extremely quickI watch very closely and 2 players can be at the same spot and the other team goes for it and some of our players don’t try, it can be slow reaction time or just giving up, in any case they shouldn’t be playing any meaningful mins. That’s the type of player we’ve been lacking for a very long time, I just hope we get one soon because that’s the type of player that can carry and will a team to a championship. And that player needs to be a guard/wing since they have the ball in their hands most of the time.I do love Hidalgo. She does have that “dog” in her, but she is also extremely quick
All of this except “their effort”. The number of times we make half speed efforts to close out on shooters or in transition is maddening. We have too many players that are not just slow, but also not quick.
It's a potential match up & D breakdown problem when one is on the floor, it's a much bigger problem if more than one on the floor and the coach's D approach & players cannot compensate. Major WCBB has simply become a much more athletic player game...
I really like our players, their effort, but you can't hide what a challenge it is match up wise
And had completely gone off the rails in 2018-19 with a losing conference record, failing to earn 20 wins, losing in the first round of the NCAAs, and had a completely broken team culture. That’s an incredibly simple view. Look at the situations they inherited. Brooks inherited a program that was well below .500 in the five seasons prior to his arrival and had only made the ncaa tournament 9 times in program history. Kellie inherited a program that had never missed the ncaa tournament and was in the E8 in 2015 and 2016.
I am certain Kellie could coach the good qualities right out of her.. I mean she’s done that with multiple conference’s best players this year. If Spears showed up yesterday we would have won, but she didn’t. We can look at her three years of phenomenal work at Wake and say ”ok what’s different this year than those three?”I do love Hidalgo. She does have that “dog” in her, but she is also extremely quick
Dude, Jewell's 3 pt shooting and overal FG% were above her career averages at Wake, as were her assist totals and rebounds per game. Every expert observer agrees she became a better overall player. Her scoring average was down (16.5 versus 13.1 as a LV) but that will happen when you go from being team's first option to the 2nd option.I am certain Kellie could coach the good qualities right out of her.. With recruits' thinking,,,it's all about :Exactly. That’s what we’re saying. Kellie is at a program with 8 championships and can’t recruit.
We’re literally losing recruits TO Kenny on a semi-regular basis now. Kids picking VT over Tennessee.
Or Kansas like Nichols who is another excellent player we blew it with.
NO rebuild needed???????????? Why because there isnt one?? The rebuild is over.........how many years does the misery go on!I read a quote the other day (regarding a men’s basketball coach somewhere) that said if the only response is “but who do you go get,” then you’re already past the point of them needing to move on. I think the reasoning there is apathy. I honestly think most sitting P5 coaches could have coached them to a similar record this year. Remember how frustrated we were when our players would play for GENO on the team USA and look like superstars. Coaching matters. The talent on this team was incredible (pre-season #5 for a reason).
There is no rebuild needed here, imo. The brand still commands values and will draw recruits… but our window on that remaining a true statement closes with each passing year.
