Coach Martin named co coach of the year by Blue Ribbon

Not taking anything away from CCM, but how can they not give COTY to the guy who finishes undefeated in the SEC? It's not even a question when it comes to the official voting, but CCM is the only other coach worthy of being named a co-coty. He did a hell of a job and am proud to have a guy like that on our side.

Calipari's team did what was expected--sweep the SEC. Anything less would've been a disappointment with the team loaded with 5 star "one and done" talent. Martin, however, did a tremendous job coaching up a team that no one expected to do well this season. UT's team showed tremendous progress throughout the season, and that was due primarily to Martin and his staff's coaching abilities. Calipari is a great recruiter, but Martin is a better coach.

I'm so happy for Coach Martin!!!! On the other hand, how could they omit Stokes from the All-Freshman team?? Also, I think Trae Golden should've made the 2nd All-SEC team.

Congratulations to CCM and Maymon!

Congrats to the entire basketball program.:clapping:

While a great nod, it is not the official awards. But Blue Ribbon is a big enough operation to get the word out there on CBS sports and other big media outlets. Kudos to Martin.

Do be hatin bro, just because Calimari gots to share the crown with Cuanzo

A very myopic point of view IMO. Just because he had the best talent doesn't translate to winning every game. There is a reason it hasn't been done since 02-03. There is more to being successful than simply having the best players. Punishing Cal for your lofty expectations is silly.

Do you honestly believe that Cal would've had the success that Martin had with UT's players this year? Didn't think so!

Awesome! Also, Maymon got second team! Both were well deserved. I'm sorry for the bad question, but this isn't the official SEC coach of the year award, is it?

If it is, then that's even more awesome!

I'm pretty sure the AP is the "official" results. I could be wrong.

I knew it wasn't official sec, but I figured maybe try had gotten a leak on the list.

Maybe we should start a thread to get a petition going for Blue Ribbon to take back the award since its not official. lmao

Some of the posters crack me up. He's our coach and getting noticed which tells others what we already know.:)

There are two actually. The media picks one as do the coaches. IMP, Cal will win the media COY and Martin the coaches COY. I predicted this the day we beat Vandy btw.

Called this before anyone else here. Patting self on back :)

You called that ONE dude that writes for a web site that half the sports world has probably never heard of would name coach Martin and Coach Calipari co-coaches of the year?

How very specific.

The Southeastern Conference unveiled its men’s basketball coaches postseason awards Tuesday to cap off another exciting season of SEC basketball.

Kentucky’s John Calipari earned SEC Coach of the Year honors while Kentucky freshman forward Anthony Davis was selected the SEC Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.

Wouldn't be hard. Since its one dude's opinion, it shouldn't take too big a petition.

What does that matter? He didn't have to coach UT's players. You know why? Because we have one player on our roster that he would have given a look too in recruiting. He doesn't have to be the greatest on-floor coach because he is the best off the floor. We can dislike his tactics, but it's working right now. Recruiting is part of coaching whether you want to believe it or not. College coaching is a 24/7/365 job.

Then honor Cal with recruiter of the year. I stand by my earlier statement--Martin is the better coach who exceeded expectations by a long shot; Cal's team did what they were supposed to do--win the SEC.
