Coach Martin Working Without A Contract (now it's final)

Top 5? He doesn't deserve to be, unless this is a spectacular season.

He deserves to be just by being the HC at UT. I think he'll be bumped to right around #5 after this season. He'll never catch Cal or Donovan, but its possible to claim the #3 spot with a few good post seasons.

Exactly. UT is a top 5 job, if he's successful no reason he shouldn't be getting paid top 5 money.

Pretty sure the numbers were already agreed to when he was hired last year. If he has a good season this year he will probably get a bump in pay.

Agree. Similar to the Bruce Pearl thing. Ut has the facilities and schedule year in and year out to really make some noise for national recognition but top 5 pay is a long ways off and many victories / accomplishments away.

I can't wait to see what Duke offers CBS when Coach K finally hits the road. That's gonna be some major money

Right now, UT is for sure a top 20 job for the average joe looking to come up. I'm looking forward to one day maybe being in elite status and a school you actually want to be at with a ton of recognition. I really think Martin has a chance to do that and wouldn't see him doing the dip and running but I don't think you get that type of recognition until you hang a couple of banners (and not the sweet 16 ones :))

Everyone else. We'll never pay the money UK does but that's okay but nobody else will either.

Exactly, and he is not successful yet, he is being paid like a promising mid major coach that has never been to the tournament....if he has a great season this yr, then he will get a big raise.

I can live with that, its jmo he's already a top 10 coach in the sec and has shown that IMO.

I disagree he has shown potential to be and I wouldnt trade him for ten other coaches based on what I think of him but he has not proven it yet....He hasnt made his first ncaa tournament north recruited his first top rated class. Hr takes them team where I thinks this one can go and he will get paid for it.

I think he'll soon have the resume of a Top 10 SEC coach, but he probably won't be paid like one until he proves that he deserves it.

Fair enough.

Another top 5 SEC finish and a NCAA appearance, and that should alone give him a top 10 resume among SEC coaches.

Man, I definitely didn't see the sweep coming last season, but I would hate to be a UF fan on a UT bball forum. In any case, I think the UT-UF bball rivalry is great. It's a lot easier to appreciate it with a very respectable coach like Donovan IMO.

(Sorry if I misspelled his name)

You seriously think Martin deserves a bigger salary than Stallings?

Based on what?

Should stallings get paid top dollar simply because he's been there awhile? He has constantly under achieved, over and over, with by far his most talented team CCM beat him and finished ahead of him in the SEC.

I get it's just one year, and I'm ok with him not getting the raise just yet, but I'm voicing my opinion. There's atleast 10 guys ahead of him in salary, how many SEC coaches would you take over him? If you don't want to lose CCM to another school he should be paid like you want him, and paying him what they currently are doesn't show that IMO.

I expect a raise after this season no matter what, outside of him just tanking and having a horrible year.

Not "top dollar" but he certainly has a resume to be paid in the top 5 in the conference. Longevity, 8 NCAA Tournament berths, 2 Sweet 16s. SEC Tournament championship.

And on Martin's resume?

You are right.....he is getting paid what he deserves right now.
