I talked to one of her immediate family members, that I know pretty well at a youth basketball game last weekend. I was told she was not doing very well.

I'm gonna miss Coach Summitt. My prayers are definately with her. I hope that when she does leave the program, it won't be a forced resignation.

yeah, this will be her last year. sad, sad story. my mother-in-law passed on because of this terrible disease. let's hope we go outside of the vol community to hire next year's coach. the ones there now just will not be able to get it done. if they are retained the ladies will be a .500 team every year. the talent level will drop without a BIG name coach coming here. =god bless you, pat !!! GBO !!!

We have 3 more home games. If you want to see this legendary coach pacing the sideline in TBA, better do it now. Its a sad time for UT athletics. If able, please come out and show appreciation for the greatest college BB coach we have ever seen. Please dont ask for details, the important thing is to show Pat how much we appreciate and love her.

Tough news.

I don't see that ever happening, with that said she will leave at years end on her own terms. Very sad, it just won't be the sane without her.

Are you being serious? Do you think with everything that she has given this university and women's college BB that she would be forced to resign?? You must be out of your mind! She will remain the head coach of the Lady Vols as long as she wants too, and NO ONE would EVER force her to resign. With that said, she is A LOT classier than that. She knows when it is time to step aside, and I believe that she knows that time is at the end of this season. I am guessing that Skeeter has gotten word that Coach Summitt has already told Hart that she will retire, so that he can get a jump start on trying to replace her (although there will never be anyone that can replace her). She will have a statue erected outside or inside TBA one day soon most likely.

I agree. Pat is a legend in her own time and such a class lady. A few years ago she was asked what accomplishment she was most proud of and she replied "With out a doubt it's our 100% graduation rate".

I watched my first lady vols game of the year a few weeks back. I haven't wanted to watch another, and it has nothing to do with the team winning or losing. It's a terrible situation, but she should have stopped in December.

No, I'm not dense. I just don't like the posturing of some open ended posts.

I agree. You don't need supposed inside information right now to realize having Pat on the sideline isn't the best for her or the program right now.

My wife and I are taking off work and driving approximately 1,300 miles to take our daughters to the last game vs Florida. My daughters, aged 3 & 5, will not immediately understand the meaningfulness of seeing Pat coach, but in the long run this is a priceless occasion.

I have steered away from Lady Vol games this year. I usually watch three or four, but this year I knew it wasn't going to be good, and just avoided.

Thoughts to Coach Summitt and her family.

It is a very sad time for Tennessee. Pat Summitt is not only the best coach ever, she is an equally great person. She has been the leader for women's basketball advancement because she not only demanded 100% of herself and her program, but she also unselfishly helped the sport in every way she could.

There will not be another Pat Summitt, and we have her. She has given so much to UT, and our entire state, and she will be in our hearts forever.

God bless you, Pat. Thank you for all you have done.

I am a diehard UK fan. I'm even starting to like Matthew Mitchell and our women's team. That being said, I've grew up witnessing the empire that Pat Sumitt built at Tennessee. It's truly amazing... She is somebody who transcends the challenges of being a women's coach to become one of the best coaches, mens or womens, throughout the history of American sports. She has earned and won the respect of not only the citizens of Tennessee, but all of America. I have always had and will always have the highest regard for her. I would have never thought that I would be so emotional about a Tennessee coach leaving a program but this has really bothered me. Almost makes me want to attend her last game but it would mean more to give that seat to a UT fan and me just watch from the TV. I hope that she spends the rest of her season continuing the success that she has built over the years. Enjoy your last games with her, Tennessee fans. I know they will be bitter sweet.
