Coach Pat Summitt

Would be great if the girls could step up and win it all this year for pat

This would be nice because Pat deserves it more than any coach ever. However, this team does not have the mental make-up to make this happen. It's really sad to see the way they play some nights as if they couldn't care less whether they win or lose, knowing that more than likely Pat is coaching her last season. They could really make history if every player would step up and give 110% every minute of every game. Instead, they will probably go down as one of the most dissapointing teams ever.

Nobody is closer to what's happening than her current players. Do you honestly think it's not affecting them?

You really need to take a step back and look at this situation.

I agree....it is obviously affecting the players....how could it not. They love Pat....she is womens basketball. Coach Summitt means so much to the University of Tennessee. I love her and what she has done....so sad to think about this.

I definitely think Pat's situation is affecting the team. However, it's a shame that they do not seem to care some nights whether they win or lose. To be honest, this Senior class has been playing this same way for the past 4 years.

I'm sure that's what it is. I'm sure it's that they just don't care.

Good grief.

You are basing your thoughts on what Dearstone says? Why didn't you just say so? That explains a lot.

I am a diehard UK fan. I'm even starting to like Matthew Mitchell and our women's team. That being said, I've grew up witnessing the empire that Pat Sumitt built at Tennessee. It's truly amazing... She is somebody who transcends the challenges of being a women's coach to become one of the best coaches, mens or womens, throughout the history of American sports. She has earned and won the respect of not only the citizens of Tennessee, but all of America. I have always had and will always have the highest regard for her. I would have never thought that I would be so emotional about a Tennessee coach leaving a program but this has really bothered me. Almost makes me want to attend her last game but it would mean more to give that seat to a UT fan and me just watch from the TV. I hope that she spends the rest of her season continuing the success that she has built over the years. Enjoy your last games with her, Tennessee fans. I know they will be bitter sweet.

Thank you KY fan. I am going to the Lady Vols vs Ky game and hoping to see a Lady Vols win. will also be going to is the Florida game. This is so hard for Vol fans....and as you wrote....hard for all sports fans. She means that much. Thanks for the classy post.

I don't think it is fair to put too much pressure on the team this year. Would love to see Pat ride off into the sunset with another title. Would be a fitting end and a story book ending.Truth is I am sure that their hearts are broken and I just hope they play their best. My thoughts and prayers go out to the team and staff but most of all to Pat and her family. We are all better for the example she has set with dignity and class. Coach Summitt has touched so many lives and the world has been a better place for having her in it. God bless and Go Vols!

Sad to hear...we love and respect Pat. No one can ever compare to her! It is simply my opinion, but I hope UT replaces her with Caldwell. She was a great vol and understands what it means to play and win here. JMHO!

It is a very sad time for Tennessee. Pat Summitt is not only the best coach ever, she is an equally great person. She has been the leader for women's basketball advancement because she not only demanded 100% of herself and her program, but she also unselfishly helped the sport in every way she could.

There will not be another Pat Summitt, and we have her. She has given so much to UT, and our entire state, and she will be in our hearts forever.

God bless you, Pat. Thank you for all you have done.

Nothing else to be said

Are you being serious? Do you think with everything that she has given this university and women's college BB that she would be forced to resign?? You must be out of your mind! She will remain the head coach of the Lady Vols as long as she wants too, and NO ONE would EVER force her to resign. With that said, she is A LOT classier than that. She knows when it is time to step aside, and I believe that she knows that time is at the end of this season. I am guessing that Skeeter has gotten word that Coach Summitt has already told Hart that she will retire, so that he can get a jump start on trying to replace her (although there will never be anyone that can replace her). She will have a statue erected outside or inside TBA one day soon most likely.

Pat's people did a terrible disservice to her and the program by endorsing her return this year. Hart has gone way past waiting for Pat's approval to start the replacement process.... That is his job.

The mood of this board is probably a mirror of the team and coaching staff emotions. Small wonder that the performance level is erratic at best and indifferent at worst. :cray:

Or further along than they have let the public know about the whole time....

It's not a disease whose progress you can pinpoint by lab tests and xrays. It varies day by day --good days and bad days. And sometimes when there is a stretch of bad days, the good days aren't quite as good when they do return.

AD generally progresses pretty slowly, but in some cases, it moves horrifyingly fast. It's devastating to all when this happens, because you just don't have the time to get your mind around it.

You just can't predict the course of AD. You pretty much just have to take it as it comes.

I am no Dearstone fan. Not even close. I can't stand to hear his opinions on most things. He's interviewed Pat before every game, done the play by play for every game and travelled with the team on planes/buses/meals/meetings for many many years. There is no bigger homer for the Lady Vols than Dearstone. He rarely says anything negative about the Lady Vols. If he said that, it's fair to take it as a pretty fair statement.

It's sort of reminds me of joepa living up here... You have a legend, that you couldn't even imagine not being on the sidelines anymore, and when they're no longer there, its earth shattering... I can't imagine her not being there anymore...

It makes me extremely sad to see what Pat is going through. She is the definition of class and excellence, both as a coach and as a human being. I hope she enjoys the rest of this year, and I hope the players she has are able to one day understand how fortunate they are to have played for such an incredible woman. Good luck with your fight, Pat. You represent everything that is Tennessee.
