Coach Power Rankings

1) Meyer
2) Carrol
3) Brown
4) Saban
5) Stoops

Tressel is peeking in, maybe if he could win a big game every other year he could replace Stoops. The coaches of BYU, Boise St, Cincy, USF, and Utah round out the top 10.. I'd have to think about what order.

I forgot about Beamer and Paul Johnson.. Not sure where I'd put them...

oh well i guess you are deaf then when analysts and journalists say he's one of the best coaches in college and I guess you dont see he gets offered by an NFL team every year. but i guess a little forum poster like you would know better then analysts, journalists and front offices of the national football league

An academic institution like Northwestern has been doing as good or better than Iowa (in the same conference) the last few years. Ferentz is nothing special.

if carroll had actually had a chance head to head against meyer the last couple of years my bet is he woudl have kicked his arse just like he does every other major college coach.

im interested to see who you guys think are the best coaches in college football. lets leave how they recruit out of the equation. here is mine

1. Nick Saban
2. Kirk Ferentz
3. Urban Meyer
4. Bob Stoops
5. Pete Carroll

I think CLK can be on this list but im not going to judge based on his first year
I hope you are kidding. Iowa is worthless. I don't care if they beat an overhyped Penn State team. He doesn't belong near the list, and seeing him over the coach going for his third national title in 4 years is the height of stupidity/ insanity.

What? Are you saying he's done enough this year to be considered one of the top 5 coaches in America?

Your last statement suggests you have a list above it of the worst coaches based on this years performance.....

But what about all those analysts and journalists? And I heard the Oakland Raiders want to interview him every year?

Carroll loses a game EVERY year thay he should not lose and his team clearly has more talent than said opponent. I don't get it. To me, that's coaching...

How do you know that? I think Carroll is a great coach, and one of the best big game coaches out there. However, the people who point to his dominance in big games should realize that the vast majority of those opponents come from the Big 10.

1. Meyer
2. Carroll
3. Saban
4. Tressel (I still think that with the exception of a two year span when OSU's talent was overrated, Tressel has been pretty decent in big games.)
5. Bob Stoops

No chance in hell Ferentz is in the top half, much less the top 5, and you might want to check Stoops record outside the state of Okl.

Beamer is a great coach. I mean you said Turner Gill and you are throwing punches at props for Frank Beamer.

Especially if you are taking out recruiting. overall performance nooo same goes for stoops

I'm not sure what the criteria for being a great coach is supposed to be. Is winning a BCS conference on a regular basis, competing for national championships, and winning some of them not the measure?

If not, then I'm voting for Bobby Johnson and Rich Brooks, both of whom seem to finish near the bottom of their conference most of the time, put mediocre talent on the field, and manage to get to .500 sometimes thanks to OOC schedules that would make Auburn blush.

If the criteria I mentioned above actually do count for something, that list is pretty good.

Today Spurrier couldn't keep up.

And this demonstrates why urbie might not necessarily belong on this list. It goes straight at the fact of just how easy it is to recruit in the state of Florida. Zook handed urbie a NC team. The ball was already rolling with a lot of momentum. Tebow pushed it a little harder. In a couple of years.. we'll see just how "good" urbie really is. I dunno maybe I dispise meyer the same way the gator fans hate Lane... and that clouds my judgement a little :)

1. Pete Carroll
2. Joe Paterno
3. Nick Saban
4. Steve Sarkisian
5. Urban Meyer/ Les Miles

Pete Carroll is not the best coach in college football. In recruiting, he may edge out Saban and Meyer but the guy goofs up too many winnable games! Pete Carroll has had the most talented teams so far this decade and managed to find himself "outside-looking-in" too many times.

The best coaches in college football can be found here in the SEC:
The top two coaches are Meyer and Saban. It doesn't which is ranked first or second.

Small gap:
Pete Carroll.

Slightly larger gap in the quality:
M. Brown.
B. Stoops.

A coach who wouldn't make my top 10:
Tressell (sp.)

A list of coaches who wouldn't make my top 20:
Les Miles.
Steve Sarkisian
