Coach Prime

Deion is starting to get a bad reputation among even recruits now. He shows clear favoritism towards his sons and Hunter while putting down the kids that aren’t starting caliber. For a guy that won Super Bowls you would think he would put an emphasis on the entire team because that is what wins you championships at the end of the day. There is a reason kids are transferring out once they see the real Deion. A 56 year old getting into an online spat with a kid that is over 30 years younger than you is pretty darn embarrassing. But he is too egotistical to acknowledge that. He is about to crash and burn imo.
Wait until Colorado gets blasted by NDSU and see how things go. I predict NDSU wins by 30.

The thing about Deion's style/persona is that it only works to any degree if he's winning. It's only cool if he's winning. If you act like that then go out and get your brains beaten in, it's much worse than just having your brains beaten in.

If he isn't winning, he has nothing to fall back on as far a marketing pitch. He openly states that he isn't about a lot of the stereotypical things that college coaches will say they are about (building a culture, relationships with players, etc.).

I think Deion is just trying to be true to what has made him successful throughout career as a player and at JSU. It seems like he has probably underestimated what the recruiting response has been to his approach. IMO, his problem has been that he’s made it about himself too much, because he’s Coach Prime. Hell it’s written on his shirts and jackets. I bolded the part that I did bc it reminded me of the pregame against Oregon. Colorado players were talking cash $hit to Oregon during warmups . Calling them names, mocking their athleticism, trying to mess up the logo and they got their ass handed to them. Deion has to shut that kind of stuff down until they at least start beating some quality teams

Is there a vote for worst thread of the year? If so, can I already place mine. This whole thread is nothing to see. We've done worse, recently.

So in other words...... they were acting just like Deion would act.

This was my favorite violation

“Last August, a strength and conditioning intern for Colorado conducted a yoga session with the football team that lasted 30 minutes, per the report from USA Today. However, the intern was not one of the five declared strength and conditioning coaches on staff at Colorado. It was determined that Colorado had an extra strength and conditioning coach due to the yoga session.”

I would be interested to see who this intern was.
A lot of people have no idea how hard it is to stay completely in compliance with the NCAA. There are an insane amount of rules and new ones are added or changed yearly....sometimes midseason. Its is like property inspectors or health inspectors. If they want to ding you for something they will because its impossible to not break some rule if they look hard enough. If you hear Minor violation get ready for the chucklebus... because its gonna be a doozy that defies common sense.

Yes, if you are a high-profile coach who is polarizing they will find something on you even if something is really nothing. it is what it is. They put all kinds of crazy stuff in the headline knowing 90% of people won't read the details and use context.. omfg Coach Primes Instagram account (that's 99% of the time likely controlled by an intern) post this or that. Yes its his responsibility to some extent but you also have to realize there is a lot going on.. there is a reason Saban retired this is a big part.

I agree that it has to be very difficult to stay within the rules bc there are so many off the wall ones. I was honestly more interested in who the yoga instructor might’ve been bc it had potential.

Bumping this one back up for old times' sake, as his team controls their own destiny in the Big 12 and positions themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt. I keep receipts, too. :)
Big 12 sucks as a conference so I’d definitely like to see Sanders and Hunter get a shot at the playoff. They are fantastic talents that would certainly bring excitement to the playoff. Go Buffs!

This is a pretty bad look for Deions son. I was not aware of the assault charges, but apparently he left a security guard with serious and possibly permanent injuries. Then recently declared bankruptcy to avoid the civil settlement. Crazy that Shilo would have been 13-14 at the time of the assault.

Shilo Sanders files for bankruptcy to absolve $11.8 million judgement tied to assault

A wealthy person filing for bankruptcy to avoid paying someone…in America?

Say it ain’t so.

You know what’s going to happen. They’ll make it into the playoffs and get blown off the field by a team that just overmatches them. Then the people with Prime Derangement Syndrome will go “See! See! Told ya!” while completely disregarding that a team that was 1-11 two seasons ago making it to the postseason at all was a massive coup.

That is really impressive. Truly is.

I reject all future "facts" presented as "I'm so smart and making such a point". I will just mention that so that somebody can come in and present additional future facts about where he goes when his son goes. It would seem to be an upcoming challenge he must face.

We'll wait and see. One day we'll all be dead. It'll be okay.

It's not their success or lack thereof that is the problem. It's personal dislike of him because of his arrogance. A lot of coaches are arrogant and become more so as they have more success, but they manage to keep it in check.

It's a character issue, not a performance one, and that has been true of Sanders since he took the field at FSU.

Tremendous athlete. And also a jerk. Not an uncommon pairing.

All true.

Deion is still putting butts in seats and eyeballs on screens for Colorado and that's what makes college football work, not niceness nor wins, in the short run. Money is what matters.

He can ride being Deion, the same way morally deficient guys like Briles rode Baylor, until the money to the school isn't worth the antics that come with him.

"The right way to do things in college sports" is to make the school and the city the school is in money. Period.

I don't disagree except to say that in such situations the level of tolerance for any antics or short-term failures tends to be lesser for the non-humble types.

A less flashy coach who has some players arrested can address it and move on. But a flashy one will be held to account for the same misconduct, earlier. And, a flashy coach who has a season fall way below expectations (even if its right after a good one) goes on the hot seat faster than one who is more even keeled.

If Kirby wasn't winning, there'd be a huge stink about his players racing and people ending up dead. But he is.

If LSU didn't think Brian Kelly could win, there'd have been Sciano style protests over his role in the death of ND's videographer. But they did.

Right now, Deion reminds me of Dennis Rodman. He's a distraction. He's a loose cannon. He's not someone you want around your team buuuuuuut he makes you enough money that you can't get rid of him. Right now. You will, but not right now.

Personally I don’t think Colorado is going to have to worry about it much longer when Shedeur and Hunter leave. He might be FSU’s or the NFL’s problem soon.

Hmmmm.... for whatever reason I had not thought of the FSU angle. Once his kids leave Colorado, I can easily see him opting for Tallahassee. For one thing, Colorado will likely sink rapidly and he won't want to be a part of that.

I think he's not a problem for Colorado since they're still selling out or near selling out home games and getting TV exposure they'd not get otherwise. He's good at bringing money for the school and Boulder and exposure for the program. Colorado had nothing to lose so it's like someone getting out of an awful marriage and getting divorced then going away to the beach with some guy in a flashy car tossing money everywhere. Who cares? Is it going to get worse? It didn't.

That said, he'll be bored and done when his kids and Hunter leave. He can easily take a TV gig, Prime and Nick have some chemistry in commercials and might have someone create a "niche" show or segment for them.

Most NFL franchises are too smart to hire Prime to a substantive position and he's got too much ego to not want some power.

As for FSU, it really depends on what kind of NIL resources they'll offer whether Deion would be interested. Colorado was one thing but expectations at FSU, even as bad as they are, would be for a real program with real wins over real competition. Prime is a lot of things but a competitive ACC football coach? I seriously doubt it.
