Coachery

Would you like more examples of good coaches who struggles in the 1st year, even worse than the coach they were replacing? Because there are plenty of those examples too.

Chadwell took over a 10-2 team and went 3-9. Any response to that one?

Scott took over a pretty awful USF team when a pandemic hit that ended pretty much all spring preparation. Not only that, but it's widely accepted that Elliot is the one calling the plays, despite the title of Co-OC, so what happens with Scott is honestly irrelevant.

Just a smidge of a difference in the competition faced between 2016 and 2017, right?

That is simply not the case, other schools have stood up to the NCAA and nothing has happened. Other schools have cooperated and still be hammered, it was a terrible decision
It is absolutely true and has been confirmed by a few others on VN and in previous examples of other schools cooperating with the NCAA. One thing is this investigation would have been silent except for the leak. The leak occurred a couple of weeks after the investigation started. Florida handled theirs quietly and no one knew about it until the investigation and results were announced in December.

Which is why admitting to the sanctions in public was an idiotic idea. It would have been much easier in the long run to pay Pruitt out and start fresh with a new coach. The NCAA has never shown any rhyme or reason to their punishments and cooperating may not do anything to soften the blow. We have shot ourselves in the foot yet again with stupidity. Not only is our program a train wreck, we now have the NCAA hovering over us. It is comical.
I feel like we called in an air strike on ourselves. I wish we could’ve just paid Pruitt half his buyout and said the other half would be paid if we didn’t get any sanctions. Then we bring in Freeze or Kiffin.

If Volnation confirmed it then it is set in stone

I find it unlikely we'd have the financial flexibility to offer Franklin that much money while paying a hefty buyout to Pruitt and his staff. So we'd probably be looking at the same lackluster Group of 5 HCs and coordinators.
Money is not an issue according to AV and SF.

Anybody not wanting Franklin here has lost their Minds!

People are saying they don't like him, he is cocky, bad personality....etc. I really don't care about their personality.
As long the players respect him, buy in to his plan and give 100% for him, and he runs as clean a program as possible in today's world, and he WINS!
I'm wanting WINS baby!

Money is never an issue until it is, if it isn't an issue then offer 10-12 million per year
It has to be value added. No available coaches are worth that amount. It is being reported that we were going to go 8m with Franklin. UT being cheap or fiscally conservative is not the problem this time. Pending NCAA sanctions are a big hurdle.

Exactly. We dig up transgressions on ourselves in order to save $12m (and that’s if UT doesn’t reach a settlement, which thru probably will), then deduct the cost of paying Glazier, then deduct the cost of legal fees that will surely be expended when Pruitt sues. And now you have to over pay for a coach by millions because of the NCAA cloud you created yourself, so you’ve basically saved nothing and set the rebuild back a few years. At least. And the NCAA will probably slam UT just as hard because it’s the NCAA.

Only the idiots running this university could screw thongs up this badly. Thank got we have a pro AD now, but the actions of the last “administration” will haunt us.

Just make the NCAA find the transgressions. It’s patently clear that they can’t find water if they fell out of a boat. Alabama and Clemson players tweet photos of themselves with cash and new cars, for God’s sakes.

Good grief...you can’t just ignore what Pruitt and clan did. There has to be repercussions.

Agree completely. Plus, let’s say you try to sweep it under the rug, fire him without cause and pay the entire buyout.

THEN THE NCAA UNCOVERS IT....

You are out 12 million, you then get to pay the same attorneys and search firm, and the new coach will have even greater sanctions to deal with because of the cover up.

UT was wise to get out in front of the issue and proactively clean house (the AD, HC and guilty assistants). This typically helps with the NCAA.

Smh... I’m going tread lightly here cause I’m going get some salty individuals come at me here....... BUT, some of these same people pressed about some of these coaches personal flaws reallllyyyy crack me up, that’s assuming every single person that talks about it has never done a thing wrong. Oh James F did this or freeze did this, oh in 1978 such and such did this, meanwhile a ton of people would sacrifice themselves for urban and his player track record is worse than any of them. All I’m saying I hope exercise that dogs these Individuals have never cheated on their wives, had an alcohol or drug addiction, or God forbid something way worse. I think if we all woke up and decided to work on ourselves rather than worry about what everybody else’s done wrong we may be better off.

What I read here was

“The other half would be paid if we didn’t get any sanctions. Then we bring in two other guys who have left programs with multiple sanctions to follow up.”

I took a poop and lost 2 pounds this morning. I think that was the precursor boom before the actual boom sometime between 1215-1230 EST today. It’s gotta be a sign.
You know what's crazy? I took one yesterday after my workout and gained four pounds. How does that work?

I got the point of #5 but just didn’t agree with it. That’s your perception and you’re entitled to it. AA kids don’t care if he’s AA or Mongolian. Overwhelmingly most kids want to be coached by a successful HC, period. If a HC being AA matters so much then why don’t the AA HC’s in the NCAA get all of the top AA players?

Again, I didn't say it's a primary factor, but it definitely IS a factor. And yes, being successful is ultimately a more attractive quality to all recruits, regardless of skin color. But recruits commit to a coach more so than a program. We've seen multiple recruits and their families talk about this. We also know that as a society, we find people of the same culture/back ground to be more relatable. Considering relatability is a strong factor in recruiting (or any industry where you're selling something), it's silly to dismiss this as having no relevancy.
