Coachery

Which is why admitting to the sanctions in public was an idiotic idea. It would have been much easier in the long run to pay Pruitt out and start fresh with a new coach. The NCAA has never shown any rhyme or reason to their punishments and cooperating may not do anything to soften the blow. We have shot ourselves in the foot yet again with stupidity. Not only is our program a train wreck, we now have the NCAA hovering over us. It is comical.

Exactly. We dig up transgressions on ourselves in order to save $12m (and that’s if UT doesn’t reach a settlement, which thru probably will), then deduct the cost of paying Glazier, then deduct the cost of legal fees that will surely be expended when Pruitt sues. And now you have to over pay for a coach by millions because of the NCAA cloud you created yourself, so you’ve basically saved nothing and set the rebuild back a few years. At least. And the NCAA will probably slam UT just as hard because it’s the NCAA.

Only the idiots running this university could screw thongs up this badly. Thank got we have a pro AD now, but the actions of the last “administration” will haunt us.

Just make the NCAA find the transgressions. It’s patently clear that they can’t find water if they fell out of a boat. Alabama and Clemson players tweet photos of themselves with cash and new cars, for God’s sakes.

No. You asked me for 2 things that made Elliott the equal of Pruitt and I over-delivered and have given you 2 things that actually made Pruitt a more justifiable/better hire.

The similarities only prove that both coaching hires were equally risky and that both men have accomplished basically the same thing.

Well, Pruitt has one major accomplishment that Elliott doesn't have yet. Bilking a gullible/vulnerable UT out of millions of dollars.

Thanks. Agree to disagree on this one then.

You must be pretty dang sure of yourself if you're turning away $8 million. That, or these NCAA sanctions are going to be even worse than we can imagine--you know they have a pretty solid idea of what we're looking at.
What would a guy really need that he can afford with $8 million but he can't afford with $5.5 million?

Plowman had no choice to start an internal investigation especially after it was leaked.’If it became known that She looked the other way it may have cost her her job and reputation.

edit: ...and resulted in more severe punishment from the NCAA.

I find it unlikely we'd have the financial flexibility to offer Franklin that much money while paying a hefty buyout to Pruitt and his staff. So we'd probably be looking at the same lackluster Group of 5 HCs and coordinators.

I don’t want UT to hire a coach because he’s AA. I could care less if he’s Chinese or Russian. At this point UT needs a known commodity as HC and not some hot name OC that may or may not ever produce as a HC.
I'm not the woke type either, but part of the job is relating to young athletes.
I would not want all white coaches or all black coaches.

That is simply not the case, other schools have stood up to the NCAA and nothing has happened. Other schools have cooperated and still be hammered, it was a terrible decision

What I got:

Still no name. Not sure if we had a swing and miss BUT the big issue isn’t the rebuilding but the potential NCAA penalties. It’s hard to sell a program on what “potential” penalties will be. Obviously TN will paint a rosier picture when trying to sell the program.

Exactly. You can’t claim ignorance of something if it’s dropped on your desk.

I don’t have anything useful this morning, and I’m hesitant to speculate given how pitched things seem to be around here. My friend said that signing a coach prior to late signing day/Spring practice will cause problems for the school that gets left. Trying to take staff etc is a particularly delicate thing given that it is still a reputation business. It sounds like they’re trying to get those details sorted. He still thinks the team will hear today, but he has no information on time etc. It remains almost impossible to get any details right now. I apologize if I created inaccurate expectation on timing. I assume they’ll be a team meeting today followed by a presser, but frankly I can’t get anything solid right now.
Well at least I have my day planned out now. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, that's obviously not the reason he would be hired. It's just an added benefit.

I got the point of #5 but just didn’t agree with it. That’s your perception and you’re entitled to it. AA kids don’t care if he’s AA or Mongolian. Overwhelmingly most kids want to be coached by a successful HC, period. If a HC being AA matters so much then why don’t the AA HC’s in the NCAA get all of the top AA players?

So the guy with $5.5M is sitting in his nice leather lazy boy drinking the $2,000 a bottle version of a Bud Lite, and he's thinking, "man, I have everything I could ever want. This $5.5Millionaire gig is sure worth it. But...WAIT! If I had another $2.5M, I could afford to buy my own jet plane and the pilots to go with it! Yeah, that would be sweet! Now, just where can I find another $2.5M, where can I ..."

There's always more to be had. Until you've bought your third yacht for hosting the naked swimsuit model parties while motoring between houses #9 and #10, you can always think of more things you want.

The only fellas who reach that magical limit you're thinking of are the billionaires who are giving huge chunks of their money away (see Bill Gates). They're the only ones who have run out of ideas for things they want.
