Coachery

Boosters have spoken to Fisher. The search firm have spoken to Dykes. I think the search firm has talked to 20 something coaches. IMO they announce whoever it is and I think most people are going to feel pretty good about the hire. The smoke around who we’ve spoken to it’ll be a massive upgrade over cornbread.

Not sure where but he is I saw it. He also had every sport at his school doing well. And had hired 6 successful up and coming coaches.

Oh I’m not doubting it. He’s consistently been referred to as a top 5 AD in America. I’d just like to see one of these rankings for reference.

I’ll see what the old google machine turns up...

FWIW:

My best friend works in athletic department at Va. Tech. He says Danny White was a homerun hire. He says folks in Blacksburg are hoping Tennessee does not hire Tony Elliott because he is target # 1 should Fuentes get fired. Also says that Herndon Hooker can play and that pairing him with Tony Elliott would be a dynamic combo. Finally, called us arrogant and delusional for thinking we can do better than Elliott. He says inside athletic departments in the ACC that Tony Elliott is considered the next big time head coach and his highly respected.

Yikes, is it really? I'm not going to lie. With all this talk about how much of a pro DW is, if he rolls out Dykes or somebody of that caliber onto the stage...well...I don't have to tell you what will be trending #1 on Twitter shortly afterwards.

With that said, I continue to appreciate what SF did throughout the final days of the Pruitt/Fulmer era. Dude is getting misquoted all over the place in other threads.
SF has been great.

I'm hoping it don't come down to that. With all the rumors of the Campbells and Franklins turning us down. I'm thinking he brings Tony Elliott or similar type hire. Who knows, maybe it'll work out. I would just like us to have a proven coach for once. I mean, has UT ever hired one outside of Neyland? Jesus

I hope we dont end up with elliot he could be a good hire but i dont think he is ready at all....His Co OC Jeff Scott at Clemson from 15-19 went 1 and 8 at south florida this year.

I don't see the desire to finally have an established, successful HC as a slight to Tony Elliott. He may be a fine HC someday...someday soon. But we have been that route with less than stellar results, and it's a tough pill to swallow being asked to do it again when there are at least two successful HC's that would reportedly crawl here if given the opportunity.

What better way to learn on the job than during probation?

Skippy, do we know it was boosters who spoke to Fisher?

From what Fisher himself said, it could have been Knoxville media types.

Or Fisher could've made that up to improve his exposure for future jobs. Not saying the man would be lying, just...creatively promoting his brand.

Unless you saw somewhere that he specified it was a booster?

All I think we know for sure is that it wasn't any decision-maker at the University. Which means it probably was not sanctioned by our AD. Which means he wasn't really considered for the job. As far as we can tell.

I don't necessarily disagree with you on Elliott. It's just always a big risk promoting a coordinator to a 1st time HC. Vol fans are projecting Pruitt's and Chad Morris' failures onto Elliott though. Just because they were failures doesn't mean Elliott will be. Pruitt also came in with huge red flags that I don't see with TE.

On Hooker, yeah I don't know. I watched enough VT games to see he wasn't great. Maybe he didn't fit Fuente's scheme, but he lost his job for a reason. I'm convinced he can't be any worse than what we've endured though.

In that case, you can have him. You come off like a publicity agent trying to build artificial hype for your client.

Right, no one at the university has spoken with fisher. That guy was just trying to grab press yesterday. For whatever reason.
