We can want in one and well you get the picture. Bruce isnt coming back, that ship sailed. Marshall was overlooked by hammy when Martin was hired so he may give UT the cold shoulder if they come calling. Smart at VCU would maybe consider the job but im not sure how seriously. There is the gonzaga coach I know hes a long shot but I believe he would be more inclinded to at least hear dave hart out more than any of the others listed above if the money is right. Pearl is going to be at the top of alot of schools list this spring including Memphis and it really wouldnt shock me if hes coaching the tigers next fall.

:loco: What's opening up at Memphis? If something happens and Pastner leaves, Robert Kirby is the coach. The Robert Kirbys are the kind of coaches UT needs to look at when the time comes.

There is absolutely no way in hell that Bruce Pearl ever has a job at Memphis. Guarantee it.

??? I know a little about Robert Kirby, but Martin has more experience than Kirby. Martin had head coaching experience and had recruited E'twan Moore and Jajuan Johnson to Purdue. Just sayin.

With the talent Cuonzo has this year, there is absolutely no excuse for not making the tournament. This is the most talented team that has been at UT in a long time or possible ever. I don't think there are some that don't want to hear this but Bruce would have this team undefeated right now and a lock for the tourney. For that matter, Bruce took lesser talented teams to the tournament every year he was here and one of those included the team that was one shot away from making it to the final four.:twocents:

Side note: for the record, I do know that Bruce isn't coming back.:p

With the team that we have now, Kevin O'Neil, Jerry Green or Bruce Pearl would have won against Xavier & UTEP, maybe even against WSU tonight.

The players aren't perfect, I agree, but I have to put this teams performance on coaching....

UT and the attorneys that were supposed to represent Pearl did a good job of hanging him to twist in the wind.

I'm sure UT and the attorneys you speak of advised him to lie about something stupid. Seriously Sly, the guy hung himself out to dry. Only person Pearl has to blame is himself. He created the situation.

Anticipation for other teams move and preparation for other coaches moves is nonexistent. UTEP's triangle and 2 and Wichy St's 2-2-1 press say hello. Should take one timeout to make a plan to get defenses out of their comfort zone and he and the entire staff have shown to be incapable with basic changes. Seems like their is one asst that can pass him a note or something. Why have 15 coaches and help if they aren't doing anything.
Oh, I forgot. They are keeping stats instead of coaching. Wonder if our top rated offensive efficiency was good tonight. With just a handful of offensive rebounds, pretty sure it's another stat that was just proven to be bs.
Sparty's eyes=3. Stat suckers=0.

WSU has the 11th rated defense in the country.

The stats are a measure the results. It's not hard to understand.

The numbers tell us that Wichita State is a better team. The numbers are right.

and our offensive efficiency number was good again last night with that **** show of offense, which is the 3rd stat I shot down as posters were posting "it's not hard to understand", so keep em coming.

Their 11th ranked D had nothing to do with our lack of attacking the press or zone and spacing. Zero.

Basketball will be on the backburner until football can refill the AD coffers. At least that's how I see it. It sucks, because I love basketball more than football. I just don't see us taking on another buyout with the financial status of the AD right now.
Agree. I'd much rather wait until we can afford to throw out the big bucks.
Just have to bite the bullet.
I know it sucks.
I rhymed.

:rock:We hire Steve Pearl as head coach. He immediately hires his Dad as top Assistant they split the 3 million total payment for a head coach and Assistant. The fans are happy and so is Steve and Bruce.

Do you think it also has something to do with the types of guards Martin recruits?
Long athletic guys that are a step slow as opposed to the smaller quicker guys who could get around the edges and into the spaces where they ain't?
Seems we're always settling for the 3s.

Way too early for this thread.

It's not. In case you haven't noticed, the SEC is not very good, so our RPI is going to suck. We have to win December games. We can't decide to start winning halfway through SEC play again. We have a good NC State team coming in and that is a must win for our schedule. Besides, we have been to the NIT 2 years in a row for no reason. We proved last year we had enough talent to win, but couldn't beat Mercer? What about MTSU? Give me a break

Our offensive efficienty wasn't good last night.... It was on par with our first matchup against Xavier

I doubt Pastner is leaving. He just gave 250K of his own money towards a new basketball facility. You'd think he'd stick around to reap the benefits of that. He certainly wont be fired. What school in their right mind would fire a coach after 5 straight 20+ win seasons and 4 straight NCAA tournaments?

Shaka turned down Illinois, which is a better program than UT. They've been to a couple final 4s, play in a better league, and have Chicago as an instate recruiting hotbed where as TN has little NCAA tournament history, plays in a football 1st league, and has extremely low success recruiting in its instate hotbed.

Finally, you guys on here are all extremely overrating the talent on your roster. Maymon was a hoss before injury, but it doesnt look like he's 100%. Stokes is overrated and at times, looks like he doesnt care a thing in world about being on a court. McCrae is solid. UTs main problem is you still have no PG. Memphis fans told you that AB wasnt the answer. He's a great kid, solid role player, but he transferred for a reason. Most of the guys Martin has brought in werent 4 and 5 star kids. Its going to show up in time.
