Coaching Rumor....Big can of Worms

Just conversation. I have no clue either. It's the way they went after Harbaugh that gives me that impression.

Oh, he was their #1 man, no doubt.

You throw everything you have at your #1. You make him
tell you no once, twice, and maybe even a third time.

The rumor going around is Mark Dantonio leaving Michigan State to take the South Carolina job. The reason it carries weight is because Dantonio played for and graduated from SC. Who wouldn't want to coach their alma mater?

Now for the can or worms...

If Dantonio leaves Michigan State, how far up on their list is Butch Jones? Would Butch, his staff, and their wives leave us to head back home? If I'm not mistaken, the majority of this staff and their wives are from Michigan.

Could be a very eventful off season if the Dantonio chip falls.

And where exactly is this rumor going around?

I guess I classify a Rumor as being true or untrue. You seem to think a Rumor is always true. I don't.

An example of a rumor is like when Dan Patrick said he is hearing his sources saying Pete Carol is a top candidate for the USC job. Me telling my friends I think Peyton Manning will be out next OC is not a rumor

If that is what a rumor is then I should have worded it differently.

Either way, it's interesting how SC's coaching situation plays out.

He doesn't have a full grasp of what a rumor is

A rumor is a piece of information or a story that has not been verified, meaning that the person telling it doesn't know if it's true or false.

My thread seems to fit the definition of "rumor".

Anyway, I'm not here to argue definitions :hi:

A rumor usually comes from something other than some yokel on a message board (not directed at you OP, as I'm sure you're just repeating something on another board). I could start a thread claiming that Peyton Manning was going to be our HC next year. That's not a rumor, it's just something I made up. If the guys on SC or CFB daily start to speculate on it I would consider it a rumor.

Yay for rumors!

not on that level

Jones can out recruit just about anyone not named Saban or Meyer. Big time schools look at that as well. Also Jones would not walk into a situation like he did with UT at MSU. He had to follow one of the worst college football coaches in history. MD has been a winner at MSU and their program is loaded with talent and has huge momentum. Who knows how Butch would do there?

That Michigan really didnt call?

You can believe what you want but IMO cbj was on a initial list of candidates in which he declined any interest in going further with many talks.

Would those talks have ever materialized any further? Of course not and that is obvious but that doesn't mean he wasn't initially gauged for interest

Just answering the hypothetical...

If Jones and crew didn't leave for Michigan then they won't leave for MSU.

He was not offered the UM job so how would he have had an opportunity to leave for that job? And you're a fool if you think he was.

Guys, I didn't take the Apple CEO position after Steve Jobs so you can bet your last dollar I won't take the Dell CEO position.

If Butch were to leave which he wont imo. But if he were id say go get Art Briles. Our offensive woes would be over and defensively, anything we have coming backvwould be light years ahead of what he has at Baylor.
