* There is mutual interest between UT and Boston Celtics assistant coach Lawrence Frank;

* Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall is interested in interviewing for the position;

* The Vols’ interest in Richmond coach Chris Mooney cooled after learning of violations committed by Mooney as an assistant at Richmond in 2007, and;

The Vols’ interest in Richmond coach Chris Mooney cooled after learning of violations committed by Mooney as an assistant at Richmond in 2007

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, in August 2007, one of Mooney’s assistants sent text messages to recruits after the practice was forbidden. Mooney, 38, acknowledged the violation and the assistant was fired.

Makes no sense. Mooney was never an assistant at Richmond.

On the plus side, Frank and Marshall being interested are HUGE.

On the minus side, it's a Softball article and can't be trusted.

The fact that griffith wrote it, im not going to say I buy everything thats being said. I still thought it was worth posting though.

Yeah but I think I would rather have Marshall. I know it was Kansas, and I am going to get railed for my illogic of wanting an NIT coach over a sweet-16 coach: But losing by 20 --it should have been 35-- cooled me on Mooney. His team looked ill-prepared.

I don't care about a timetable to hire Frank. Just agree, in principle, then sign the contract after the season's over.

Certainly. Gets the discussion going, if nothing else. A lot of it I hope is true. Some of it seems awful strange (Mooney violation bit). Fingers still crossed in hopes of a good coach taking the job.

Personally, I don't want Lawrence Frank. I thought he was overrated with a stacked Nets team and helped run the team into the ground. I'd rather have Byrd as a stopgap if those are the two choices. I could see myself pulling for Byrd to be successful. I have no desire to cheer for LF.
