What was New Jersey's record when they fired Cal?

Don't confuse him with the facts. NBA coaches automatically suck at the college level. It isn't like some of them have ever had college coaching experience prior to that :crazy:

I can't believe how bent out of shape so many people are over his final season as the Nets coach.
75% of the posters in this forum couldn't name a single player off the roster of that New Jersey team without google. Take Brook Lopez and Devin Harris out of the equation and you're up to 95%. I quit paying any attention to what was said in this forum regarding the pro game after the infamous Rajon Rondo/Chris Lofton debate.

Obviously Frank and Dixon are two dream candidates, but I would consider it unrealistic. Tennessee's best option is Greg Marshall. He has been the most logical since September.

Frank was a loser in college and regressed the nets until he was fired.

He is a tiny angry bald man. He has never proven anything as a recruiter. I am sick of people on here pretending they know he would succeed here.

Frank would be O'Neill part 2.

That was an actual debate?

:twocents: I still feel like Rick Byrd would be a good choice, despite what most posters here think...I've been around him for over 10 years and he's as solid as any name being mentioned on here or TOS...His ties to Knoxville and UT are strong and IMO it would not be a bad hire at all.. :twocents:

I'm sure he's a good guy, and I think he's a solid coach. But he doesn't have a prayer of making it in a BCS League's recruiting environment, imo.

It would be a tough adjustment at first to go from the Atlantic Sun to the SEC I'm sure, but IMO his coaching ability is among the absolute best in CBB..Given the right recruiters on his staff I believe he would have tremendous success as UT HC...JMO

Especially since Harris plays for the Jazz now

What about Turgeon? I haven't seen anything about him yea or nay since the "list of five" was released. Given Hamilton's apparent love of red herrings, could there possibly be something going on with him that they're trying to hide, or is this just wishful thinking?

Vince Carter
Richard Jefferson
Jason Kidd
Alonzo Mourning
Nenad Krstic

...and perpetual all-star Ron Mercer.
(source)

You are seriously bringing up Mourning's stint in New Jersey? Quite an awesome job he did there.

What is the difference in Carter and Jefferson's game?

Mercer was NEVER a perennial all-star. Also, his season with the Nets was in the twilight of his career. He averaged 7 pts a game.

Krstic. Please.

That leaves Kidd. Who was at the top of his game.

So, no that is NOT stacked.

O'Neill had his program heading in the right direction before being shown the door.

Please leave your ignorance off this board.

frank....the 0 and 16 start and getting fired is a little disconcerting.....but i think it would be fun to see him go up against cal

Did you see the 'team' he had to put on the floor each of those nights? He wouldn't have done much better in the NBDL.

I say hire Rick Byrd and we will win with intergrity and class. Fans may not be too excited, with the hire but...He is one of the most respected coaches, among his peers. Go ask whoever you want in the coaching ranks about Coach Byrd, how highly regarded they think of him.

He can hire a great staff for recruiting cant he? He is a proven winner, thats someting a lot of the other names floating around cant cant claim. Again, I really dont care that much but wouldnt be upset to have him as our coach. As long as we dont hire Shaka Khan im fine. Just someting about that guy?

This. I use basketball to pass the time until football arrives, so I probably don't care enough to have a valuable opinion. But, Byrd is who I'd prefer from everyone I've heard mentioned other than Brad Stevens.

:eek:k:And this post from someone who started a THREAD saying Anthony Grant is the WORST coach in the SEC...And replied 9 times defending it...

Anthony Grant did the worst job in the SEC coaching wise at the point where I made my post. Bruce Pearl did the best.

The subsequent increased level of productivity from Alabama including Releford improving over the course of his freshman year, led me to the place where I would be happy with Grant as coach here.

No one, and I mean none of the hat hangers or the man himself have refuted the important points that
1. Frank has never proven anything as a recruiter. The man looks like a CPA and will struggle in the living rooms.
2. As a coach the nets regressed. If you take over a company that is top 5 in your industry area, only complete morons herald your accomplishment at being "top 10" in your industry area. Frank took a team that was in the Finals, and he took it not as far. He did this for a while until the owners decided they were paying way too much for a team whose coach could not win a championship, so they destroyed the team and he was fired. With a bad roster he could not win, and with a great roster he could not win big.
3. His dominant coaching mode is anger. He is a screaming and cursing man. While I love RBK and that fits his description as well, RBK had a legacy that for a long time attracted very strong talent. Frank? It will be even more crippling than the fact that he looks hilarious to potential players that he is offering a style that will wear thin on players. He coaches boring basketball and he screams as he does it.

If you guys want Frank to come as an assistant here, I think he could bring a lot of knowledge. As head coach he would be a disaster.

To those who say O'Neill part 2 would be great, you are too far gone to help. O'Neill sucks. He sucks. His record is all the proof I need, but I also watched him in person suck over and over and over. He was able to beat Pearl but he has accomplished nothing in the tournament and he is a career mediocre. His best player is leaving, which is why he said his current USC team will "be the same next year as it was this year". Why do you have to build in low expectations? Because you suck.
