Accurate.

"Realists" always have the perception of themselves on some kind of higher ground than everyone else.

Not true. Realists just don't ride the emotional roller coaster without a lap belt like the sunshine pumping, orange koolaid drinking crowd. That's the only difference.

LOL, if this board goes full retard after this game or any other game well...I'll see y'all next off season.

See you when basketball starts? We're good for about a month there before the bottom falls out, justifiably or not.

HAHA PJ what would you call someone that expects this team to win this year vs arguably one of the top teams in the country on their home field?

I dont care about I told you so's I would be thrilled with a win but am amazed how many are calling it lol.
What would you call someone who spent weeks trying to convince the entire board that something was going to happen and it never did? Call them out all you want just try to remember

The point is, cheering for UT football is supposed to be fun. If you get enjoyment from running down fellow UT fans after a loss you might not be doing it right

If UT loses 35 - 17 as i predict. how would everyone feel? I would feel pretty good. That would define progress as we lost by 45 last time we played this high quality a team on the road. If they do better, which is definitely possible given some things going our way, I will hold my head very high.

If they get blown out 45-10, and i really don't think they will, i would be dissapointed but not broken. This game can't break me. We will only get better as the season progresses, especially having a bye after OU.

The reality is the OLine simply won't have an answer for the OU front 7. They won't have to commit extra guys to stop the run or pressure the QB. Worley will be pressured and will have to make some plays and tough throws. I simply don't see us being able to win with that holding true. Maybe the OLine takes a giant leap foreward and we hold our own, but anything short of that won't be enough.

Pretty much I don't think we win this game but I would be glad as hell to be wrong. Too many of our "fans" are more worried about their opinions being right instead of this team being good. I would rather come to the board and gladly eat crow than watch our boys lose and be able to thump my chest about being correct.

I am like most loyal fans, we Love it when we are winning and that has not happened as of late. I knew when we began being concerned if we could beat Vanderbilt that we were in for a long wait before we could be relevant again.

At the start of the season I anticipated this game as a loss... at least on the field. However, we will have young talent that will gain much experience and to the fans we will know how much longer our wait will be. I expect us to win every game, if it does not happen... I am still a VFL

It's not about chest thumping, it's about tempering expectations. Not sure if you have kids, but if so, do you remember trying to break it to them easy that Santa isn't real? Kinda like that, only with irrational actors who are convinced we are a few breaks away from being in the National Championship conversation.

Of course, it is arguable that isn't the job of us Negavols. We should just fall in line and enjoy the shine.

I was just poking at PJ, but I do understand what you're saying.

Fans are just fans though. The irrationality is what allows people to have a good time. But personally, I've never felt like I needed to trick myself in order to have a good time. :)

No problem with rooting for the SEC..... After reading this post, I can see a total meltdown by some fans if things don't go well.....

Which is worse? The person who likes to gloat about being right, or the person who can't stand to be told they were wrong and gets butthurt?

Realist, defeatist, pessimist, whatever. How can it be real if it hasn't happened yet? It is arrogant to think your opinion is the only one that can be the real outcome of the game. I will concede it's the most probable, but I'm a big boy, I can handle the disappointment if we lose. Til then, pass the kool-aid

I have to admit I'm a bit surprised by the number of people picking Tennessee.

I think the reality is most of them don't really expect to win, they just feel guilty if they pick against the Vols. I have no problem with it. If it helps th enjoy the week and the buildup to the game, I'm all for it.

BS. The amount of bragging that goes on from the ones who "called it" is nauseating. Same with your insults toward anyone who watches the game with a belief we can win it.

Not arrogance, tempering expectations. Don't forget your lap belt.
