So VN, what's worse?

A. Pumping sunshine 24/7, declaring we're going to whip dey azz for every game where we are an underdog, place ridiculous expectations on Butch, and then crucify him when he can't meet those expectations...

OR

B. Acknowledging that we're about to get man-handled by OU, all the while supporting Butch 100% through the rebuilding process.

Because I consider myself firmly in B camp.

False dilemma

So, if all the ifs fall in place and bullfrogs do have wings and we get candy and nuts for Christmas, ... how much crow must a "realist" eat, and how should it be prepared?

I ate dog food and posted pictures once after a bet on this site because we were tied with Alabama at the half.
soooo....that much?

Hmm, I am somewhere in the middle. Not ready to acknowledge we get man-handled. Not saying we are gonna win either.

Optimistic, while understanding that our defense will have to play lights out to have a chance. Will be most disappointed if we get blown out. Need to see if this team has any fight...win or lose. Supporting Butch 100% depends on my perception of whether I continue to see this team improve throughout the season.

I'm all in for this realist/negavol thing. If the Vols lose, I get the satisfaction of being right. If the Vols win, I get the satisfaction of seeing the Vols win a big game. Can't lose either way.

The share of crow should equate to the level of butthurt the sunshine pumpers show first game. Not sure how we'll measure it.

PJ?

You put exactly what I was trying to say but you said it much better. Call me a firm B.

Negativity ≠ Realism

Realistically, the odds are heavily in OU's favor, but it's not a foregone conclusion as the OP suggests.

Missing the premise. Vols lose, the weekend isn't a lost cause. Vols win, it's a huge celebration.

That is Realist. Again, we don't do emotional roller coasters. Just not our style.

Not a foregone conclusion. Just an expectation. What I want to happen is the Vols completely turn my expectations upside down. That's what the OP said.

Also, he said he wouldn't gloat or act the fool post game if the Vols lose.

I will give you my gods honest opinion and prediction that I feel like I will get crucified for in other threads.

I think that we match-up pretty decently this year with OU. BUT I think our O-line is terrible, and that is the difference...a big one. Like, way worse than pretty much anyone else seems to be willing to admit or accept. So bad that I think I would set our odds of scoring 3 touchdowns or more at something like 20 percent.

I do not think anyone should see it as a foregone conclusion but in a mathematical way it is very unlikely. I will be the first one celebrating a win and lamenting a loss. I am just amazed at all the people that are calling for the Vols to win this game not in a homer or fan way but using irrelevant statistics.

If we lose whether it be a close game or a blowout I will most likely avoid the forum until at least Monday lol. I dont want my head to asplode haha.

Not arrogance, tempering expectations. Don't forget your lap belt.

Why watch if the outcome is already decided? Why not skip the rest of the season if UT is not going to pull any up sets? Odds are against them winning more than five. If you're that emotionally fragile check back in next year. If we lose I'll put a new impeller on my sunshine pump and start looking forward to upsetting Georgia. It's all butterflies and bumblebees brother get on board!

MODS, would it be permissible to start a meltdown thread during the game? Just to see what happens in there? It would be classic.

Realists - Vol fans who enjoy rubbing a loss by the Vols in your face.

Favorite phrase - I told you so

Vollyannas aka Sunshine Pumpers- fans who feel any fan who doesn't offer unbridled enthusiasm about the chances of victory against a highly ranked opponent on the road is a "negavol"

Favorite phrase- "go find another team to pull for"

Vol fans setting themselves up for disappointment has almost become a tradition over the past decade. We know what we're getting ourselves into.

How did I miss this?

I think it was 2010 or 2011 Alabama game. I made my own thread. I am sure you can look back and find it lol.

I bet that we couldn't be leading or tied by halftime in the game thread. Of course we were like 6-6 or something at the half, so I did it. We proceeded to get our brains beaten in for the 2nd half, which was what I expected, it just took longer to happen than I thought.

That's the butthurt we're looking for right there. Your emotional reaction to an opinion different than yours. I'm sorry, but we don't have room in our club for you.
