Cohen likely to cooperate with prosecution

I wouldn't go fapping away just yet.

If what he plead guilty to was lying to the bank about what he was borrowing money for it's such a minor and common "crime" it's not going to bring down a presidency.

True. Unless he did it a lot. And about significant things. It's one thing to claim you need 10k for a new roof and spend 2k of that on vacation. Quite another to engage in systemic fraud of hundreds of thousands to pay off porn stars or hookers.

Surely, you would agree that at some point it could be enough to force prosecutorial action.

Don't you expect that he did do that more than once? I'd be very surprised if it wasn't common for him, or others on his behalf, to lie to banks.

It's hard for me to get worked up about people lying to banks as long as they repaid the money. But I do understand that it's against the law.

I will say this, you better hope this isn't what they try to bring Trump down with.

National Enquirer boss David Pecker reportedly gets federal immunity in Michael Cohen case

  • AMI chairman Daivd Pecker gave prosecutors information about President Donald Trump's knowledge of payments his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen made to women alleging affairs with Trump, The Wall Street Journal reports.
  • Pecker, along with both his company and the Trump Organization, had reportedly been subpoenaed by federal investigators in April.
  • Cohen pleaded guilty Tuesday to eight criminal charges including tax fraud and campaign finance violations, and could face years in prison.
A condom for Pecker.

Meh, maybe 5 of the ultimate 40 counts.

Yeah, that might be the nail in the state court indictment, even if it just results in Trump having to turn himself in at 12:02 on January 21, 2021.

Dershowitz: Trump Did Not Commit a Crime If He Paid Women Out of His Own Pocket

That's not the issue.

And I'm confused. At first Trump said he did not know who or how the payments were made. Now, when Cohen says he told him to make them and conceal them, he says that he personally made them?

Was he lying then, or is he lying now? The two statements are mutually exclusive.

This is what happens when you lie ALL THE TIME. He can't remember the lies he's told in the past.

Same could be asked about Cohen, yet you haven't. I wonder why

One potentially significant twist with Trump is that Justice Department policy says he can’t be indicted while in office. So the question may never directly arise about whether to file a charge against him. Instead, the issue may be whether to include the alleged campaign finance offenses in a report to Congress that could lead to impeachment.

Even there, however, the intent issue could loom large because the Justice Department is likely to take into account how it would have handled a potential criminal case against Trump.

“If Mueller writes a report on potential crimes by the president, there has to be some indication of how serious this is and what does it mean in terms of whether he would have been charged with a crime, even if DOJ is not going to have an indictment of the president,” said Hasen, the University of California law professor. “There’s a lot of ways further analysis of Trump’s motives could come, aside from actually charging him with a crime.”

I honestly think DOJ would rather let the unindicted person distinctions amass, as a passive aggressive shaming of congress. I suppose this is close to what you are describing.

It is merely a guideline, it is not law. If it's bad enough, they can indict.

And besides, it is only as to DOJ. Another prosecutor in a relevant jurisdiction, such as New York, could indict him under that state's laws.

Well, you just stay up ALL night figuring that one out there LG.

What are the Vegas odds we hear about an abortion Trump paid for??? Whatever it is, take the over.

“I could get an abortion for a woman I knocked up during an extramartial affair and I wouldn’t lose voters. And Melania would understand. She wants to protect the family’s image as much as I do.”

If Trump is impeached by the House and convicted by the Senate he is remove from office. After that he is not a sitting President and the regular justice system can take over with the crimes he is accused.

Probably, although I figure the evangelical part of his base will forgive him.

He's a transformed man, after all. Pence may have to do a Megachurch tour, but after some soul searching, I think they will agree that they are not the ultimate judge.
