Cole Cubelic remarks

Both tackles are terrible. Might as well play Dane and Larry Johnson.

those two played the majority of time versus Oklahoma and there was not much difference in play of the OL. Was the reason Heupel went conservative in the second half. First time in his coaching career he did that.
Cole was talking about effort. Cole is definitely aware of the injury. He did the Kent game. I’d think Cole is able to understand playing after coming off an injury. Unfortunately he was out there & his performance was far below acceptable. If he was unable to go, he should have tapped out or coaches should have pulled him. A LT playing like that & you won’t beat many teams left, including Florida.

Agree on the performance... and maybe they should have sat him down, hard to know. They were not happy with the replacements from the week before as they had to shutdown the offense second half due to OL issues.

He may have been giving max effort since he is so far out of shape... He (Campbell even more than Heard) missed a lot of practice August and since season started with health issues. Campbell is limited every week at practice due to health.

I know that means fans will think others should play in their place but improvements would not be there...

Then the comments are blame the OL coach. I would not argue those comments.

Davis, in his snaps vs Arkansas graded significantly higher than Campbell & Heard.

But if listening to you means that is what OT play is going to be this year, kiss CFP, 9+ wins & good season goodbye. It ain’t happening with 2OTs grading below 50%.

the offensive line is not going to start playing better all of sudden. They have been bad both SEC games. Won't get fixed in a week. JMO

Who would have ever thought going into this season we would be talking that the O Line, aside from injuries, would be the Achilles Heel of this squad?
I sure didn't - I thought we would be roasting the DBs and Safeties...they've actually shown to be one of the better groups so far.

I mean idk the answer here. I would think maybe we would go with the healthy guy at this point though even if the level of play was a little lower. I’m just confused how we don’t have any backups that are somewhat ready to contribute. How is that possible?

Elarbee? What's sad is that we'll be depending on young linemen and the portal in Nico's second year, too. In the NIL era, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Nico might make a move under the circumstances. Just very hard to imagine a huge improvement in our line next year considering we lose both Mayes and Spraggins. Certainly not the "Nico era" folks had imagined I suspect.

Sounds like poor roster management to me.

6 seniors
0 juniors
4 sophomores
10 freshman

I've always heard, takes OL some time to understand this system / speed. Can't say if that is true or not..

I wonder if Cole is aware of this and if his comment would be the same:::

He has had very limited practice time due to injuries.

He is a freshman in experience.

Due to injuries, he is not in the best shape due to limited time to practice and play, Had missed 28 days of practice prior to Saturday.

Saturday was the second SEC game he has had any significant time in (Auburn last year)

This season will be his "learning on the job" year. He won't play like a 5 star this season and likely not a 4 star. Perhaps in the future but due to all of the above, he is a ways from being what he was assessed at as a high school player.

Expectations should be set based on that.
Then don’t start him or play him all the snaps.

We are 4-1 and ranked 8th in the country.

Maybe it’s conditioning since he missed a lot of fall camp or maybe he’s still battling injuries. Regardless you gotta get him out of there if that’s the effort he’s gonna play with.
It may not have mattered. As more time goes by, the more I get the feeling that CJH runs kind of a soft fall camp.

He looks like he is out of shape, but he could also still have the lingering foot injury.
Your post is a nice break from those who are ever ready to condemn and crucify players without knowing if they have a medical or some other issue hampering their play.

Agree with you about Elarbee, I don't think he has developed what he has.

I think that is what happens when you pick a player based solely on their rankings. He was dominant in high school. Was that just because he was massive compared to his opponents? He has shown no ambition or hustle since he has been here. I have a sneaky suspicion he is a person with a tackle body, but guard speed and dexterity. He reaches almost every time an edge rusher does a speed rush. Before someone says it is the Oline coaches responsibility to fix that, old habits are impossible to break in one or two camps. He is just unmotivated. Why should he be? He gets paid whether he works hard or not.

Cole studies OL play thruout the conference each week. In discussing the poor level of OT play thru the conf this morning, his comment was “Tennessee may have the laziest LT”. WOW.

This is an unbiased opinion of the guy.

Cubelic should be an o line coach somewhere.

Heard did look lost out there. The whole offense minus the running backs looked dazed and confused. I thought the bye week would help but the offense just looked bad by any measure. Shockingly bad and ended with the qb running out of bounds the final play.

Anyway that game is over and everyone needs to move on as the SEC is a minefield of solid teams and the Vols cannot survive a mediocre effort in any game. We saw Heupel bench Jalen Hyatt for dropped passes and you know he will change the lineup if players are not ready for SEC competition.

Some of us are sounding like my business partner...declaring death to our program 5 games into the season (one reason I can't watch live games with him...he'll declare a loss in the 3rd quarter 😂 😂 .). There's prob a touch of truth is some of those statements about LH. He's extremely inexperienced, out of shape, and learning a new system (not "covering for him just facts"). As for the Arkansas game...some STILL fail to understand they were a couple plays away from being 5-0. Not sure if its the gambling epidemic or what but more and more fans seem to pencil in a win when the obvious facts show are tough game to be played. And if it hasn't been discussed yet ...the rest of our SEC games will be a ROCK FIGHT!!!. So buckle down and get ready!
