Whether he was a JUCO or a 5* isn’t important. They’re both Vols now.Ordinarily, I'd scoff at the notion of playing a JUCO kid over a former 4/5 star talent, but in this case, I've seen enough to say it's definitely a move to make. It will either light a fire under Heard or he moves on to the portal...again. Does he have a redshirt? How many games has he played?
Heard was terrible. I’d rather have Dayne Davis start going forward, he may be beat a lot but you never question his effort.
Agree. God gave us 1 mouth & 2 ears for a reason. It didn’t take an SEC OL to tell me that the Tenn OL struggled but Cole is very fair & honest in his assessmentsI don’t know…..maybe some think an ex SEC offensive lineman may have some insight, bordering on expertise?
The heart of an athlete is more than athleticism, skill and ability. Regardless of your God given positive attributes, success usually lies in how much you really want it. A lot of the Portal Players were not on the field at their original school because they didn’t want it. 5 Stars means you have won the body lottery. You are strong, fast, tall, big, and/ or have skills. 3 Stars do not have the natural blessings aforementioned, but they have heart and work their butt off everyday. In the weight room, film room, practice field, you name it. They want it. All they need is coaching, growing and a chance. Some of the highly touted guys can’t be coached, are lazy or lack character. After a couple of years they hit the portal and often more than once. I’m not saying anything about Heard or anyone specifically. Heart and soul is required at this level of competition. As in everything, Character matters.
When it’s the truth, it hurts. I can’t say many would disagree with him. After all, we are a bunch of unpaid talking heads and some of you take this garbage way too seriously. I wasn’t even upset Saturday night for the first time in years. After the first series of Arkie driving down the field I knew we were not ready to play. The defense bowed its back in the red zone time after time, so don’t blame Banks for this loss. The psyche just didn’t appear right. The way we looked confused and out of place, I knew we were not in a good frame of mind. The team, meaning everyone was not prepared for the game. Not being ready after a bye week is inexcusable. Or maybe we are simply terrible up front on offense and WRs, (that in preseason we’re supposed to be the best ones in the country) don’t know how to get open. They let Slaughter eat their lunch too many times. If CJH failed to do his job and have this team ready we will know it when we destroy a weaker Florida team. If we simply suck, it will show as we struggle against the Gators, in our House.Who cares what some bloated overpaid ESPN talking head says?

I'm nearing gumbo master level. Make a good etouffee as well. Proper dirty rice is improving. Pintos, White Bean, and Red bean dishes I'm also good at. Wife is from Lower LA originally. I had to learn to cook some dishes after her mom died. But, give me redfish every day, and i'll eat fish every day. Then add the blue crab, redfish, gumbo, and beignets. Lawd have mercy.
That was a huge issue at Arky. Considering 3 of our receivers that just shouldn't be happening consistently.I thought the OLine gave the QB plenty of time on a majority of the 2nd half pass attempts, but the QB held the ball way too long. Maybe the receivers weren't open but if that's the case then he should take off running.
These are all arguments for a red shirt (if he hasn't yet taken one). Heal first, then strength and conditioning, then play, in that order.I wonder if Cole is aware of this and if his comment would be the same:::
He has had very limited practice time due to injuries.
He is a freshman in experience.
Due to injuries, he is not in the best shape due to limited time to practice and play, Had missed 28 days of practice prior to Saturday.
Saturday was the second SEC game he has had any significant time in (Auburn last year)
This season will be his "learning on the job" year. He won't play like a 5 star this season and likely not a 4 star. Perhaps in the future but due to all of the above, he is a ways from being what he was assessed at as a high school player.
Expectations should be set based on that.
