College Baseball - Transfer Portal Tracker

Does anyone know where I can find a list of our 2022 JUCO signees? The only one that I know of is Colby Backus.

As a Freshman, Skenes hit .410 with 11 HRs as a catcher but came out of the bullpen for 11 Saves (30 K/26 IP). Four pitches with 95-98 mph fastball as a Sophomore. I’d say it depends on if he WANTS to catch as well as if he NEEDS to pitch (better $$$ as projected RHP in draft). Would love to see him used as a Swiss army knife!

Earlier I likened him to Ohtani, maybe I should have used Babe Ruth as the example. I agree, it all depends on what he wants in a program to help sculpt his future as to which he will choose.

Anyone know if any notable pitchers from Campbell ever entered the portal? They had a few guys who faced us who I thought "Hmm, I wonder if they'll be interested in transferring here after playing against us like Dollander did after he played against us."

I don't think any of that team would have the computer savvy to use a portal.

Besides, they are all out working as lumberjacks this summer.

May be using Portal Johns but kinda doubt it.

I remain convinced Lawson will be gone, so operating under that assumption here is how I see the lineup breaking down by SEC play starting. This is also contingent on a few things. I think Ortega will come back, but if that changes slide Moore into his position.

CF Seth Stephenson
SS Maui Ahuna
LF Jared Dickey
1B Blake Burke
2B Jorel Ortega
3B Zane Denton
RF Colby Backus
DH Christian Moore
C Jackson Alexander

The tough part IMO is I’m not sure where to put Seth. I think Ahuna is more likely to lead-off. He has power, speed, hits for average, hits to all parts of the field, etc. But, I don’t think you move Seth all the way down to 7-9 so I guess I’ll keep him as leadoff right now.
Ortega will be drafted and leave

Nice pick up, he hurt the Vols . Upgrade defensively, can he bring some Trey stats?

You’d have to think in a hitter friendly park like LNS his offensive stats from this year will only get better. I’m thinking 15-18 home runs instead of 13. Hopefully a little better BA as well.

Trey was charged with 11 errors in 141 chances, Denton 4 in 137 chances, so maybe a defensive upgrade. Offensively, he doesn't have the numbers Trey put up. But he could have a break out year like Trey did. He's a switch hitter. It'll be interesting to see if he chooses to remain a switch hitter in a new setting.

Bama stadium is same size as LNS. But a change of place and new hitting coach might be the ticket. He hit better the previous year before this past season, so we know he can do better than last season.

Tennessee develops players at a high level. I have to think that’s a big reason he’s transferring. Much is made, and rightfully so, of Anderson’s ability to develop pitchers. Look how much better Dollander got after transferring to Tennessee. But Elander also develops these hitters. Trey, Lawson, Ortega, Beck, Gilbert, etc. all got better this season. So yeah, I think his BA and HRs will improve. Perhaps by a lot.

If he is determined to be a starting pitcher, almost certainly means he isn’t coming here.
Well, if he has two years left, he could come here and compete for the mid-week starting job and if he wins it he would be groomed for next year when Dollander leaves. If he doesn't win that one or another starting job he could be a long reliever in training for next season. Question is: Does he want to have Anderson for his pitching coach badly enough to take that route?

He’s getting drafted next year. Skenes is playing 1-year only no matter where he goes. He’ll be a 1st-round pick.

So, if he's got only one year, his decision making will be to contrast the value of being coached by Anderson in a likely non-starting role vs the value of a starting role in a program that doesn't have Anderson.

True. There hasn’t been much momentum with him for us lately, at least not a lot of buzz I can hear. I think he is likely going to end up at LSU or MSU, but I wouldn’t count out Texas anymore now that they hired a really good pitching coach and they have glaring need for a rotation arm.
