College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

USCjr was never a real option. Duke makes sense in retrospect. He didn't want to go far away, yet he didn't really want to just stay home for sake of staying home. With Duke, it's a mixture of staying home and going to a powerhouse.

I don't think Zion will live up to his hype though. He's a ridiculous athlete and his style caters to highlight reels. A better version of Derrick Jones imo. Not to say Coach K can't develop him though.

Wish it was Clemson. Blue bloods don’t like teams like them getting their players. Would have ruffled some feathers.

That was the kind of reaction I expected many UK fans to have towards Carl's recruiting strategy 9 years ago. UK fans took pride in their teams, invested in the kids lives. I wondered how they'd accept Carl's mercenary recruiting, and was surprised it was so universally embraced for as long as it has been. I am starting to see many other UK fans share your same attitude. Just another product of the crappy one and done rule.

I don't know the word for it...but it's a situation where we are doomed by our own success. We recruit elite players, and we're not going to say no to them. Cal is good at featuring them and so they inevitably leave after a year. So there's never any continuity from year to year.

I'd rather recruit one or two 5*s with a ton of 3*/4*s than all 5*s .

The good news is, you may end up with several of the current squad coming back.

Maybe. I got told one player might transfer out. I think one or two leave and go pro. But I definitely think next year will be interesting with players back.

And on ulis, bet he wishes he had stayed. He’s having a rough go in the Nba. Russ man handled him the other night lol

I'd rather it be Clemson. But now he'll probably end up staying four years and annoy us for years.

The problem with the one and done in the manner that Cal does it is that not all #1 recruiting classes are created equal.

Look at the NBA draft. One year, the #1 pick is Lebron James or Anthony Davis. Another year, the #1 pick is Anthony Bennett, Andrea Bargnani or Andrew Bogut.

That's a wide gap

Ulis was never going to be star. Admittedly I never watch the Suns much, but the few games I've seen he struggles. Only very special players like I. Thomas can do it.
