College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

They still fit the eye test for you?

For me they have a terrible coach and can't protect the ball.

Yeah. They did work in the non conference.

Now they could mail it in if they can’t get back on track quick enough. That very well could happen.

I thought they played like a team that had quit against us and really haven't played well since even though they won a few. They were extremely lucky to beat ole miss at home. The Mizzu game was their head. I think they are done

Hot take is A&M doesn't dance

Big game for Mizzu tonight. I think this is a key game they need to win to make the NCAA

I agree. I am enjoying Scar and Florida as well. Seeing Carolina hang in there while pkaying worse than they did against us makes me feel good about Florida.

We have a pretty decent chance of being favored in every game remaining on the schedule.

Egbunu being back could really change things for Florida though.

Surprised so far with this game. Would be shocked if USCe won

I agree Bru, but you never know.

Has all the makings for a part 2 of their legendary clash in Gainesville back in 1931. “Hustlin Harry” Holbrook led an undersized Gamecocks squad into the Sunshine State hot off wins against Wofford and The Citadel. “Long Arm Larry” Lewis of the Gators may have been the SEC’s Most Valuable Player at season’s end, but this day would belong to South Carolina when all was said and done.

With the game tied at 37 all (might seem like yesterday but still 49 years before the 3 point line and 54 years before the shot clock) with 4 seconds left, a seldom used junior from Conway, SC known among USCe fans as “Fleet-Footed Frank” Fairley checks into the game for his first minutes in almost a month. Fairley promptly draws a foul on a sky hook with 1 second remaining on the game clock. Being that we were still 24 years away from the inception of the one and one procedure utilized in modern college basketball, Larry gets 2 shots, quickly missing the first.

After shaking hands (still 71 years before the greeting known as the “dap” was widely adopted among teammates at the foul line) with all 4 of his teammates Larry stuns the Gainesville crowd to its core when his underhanded free throw soars through the humid Florida air, into the hoop and out through the net.

Epic game to say the least. South Carolina lore will even cite this game as then-Gator Coach “Hard Head Ed” Williamson’s primary motive for retiring at season’s end.
