College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

As a Vol fan and Texas alum/quasi-fan, I would endorse this possibility:

Eric Musselman, Arkansas head coach. Musselman is only in his fourth year in Fayetteville, yet he has already taken the Hogs to two Elite Eights and has a chance to bring them there again this season. He, too, recently signed a long-term extension that pays him more than $4 million annually. He has everything he could want at Arkansas except one thing — a big city. Musselman has coached in the NBA and spent a lot of time on the West Coast. It was an open secret last year that he would have had high interest in USC if Andy Enfield had left for Maryland. Musselman would definitely be interested in talking to Texas. If the school could make this hire, it would have the added benefit of kneecapping a future SEC rival in the process.

I could see Muss going back to the NBA

His strength does seem to be managing extreme roster turnover each season and finding ways to get a bunch of new faces to mesh. Feels like something you need to be able to do in the NBA. I agree I think if he leaves Arkansas it is for the NBA or nothing. Arkansas has a rich basketball history and can pay a lot of money. I don't see Muss leaving for another college. He has everything he needs to win in Fayetteville.

I agree. Arkansas is a top 25 job.

Not to make this a referendum on Fulmer's firing, but I'd venture to guess a lot of people, nationally, who felt we acted too hastily in cutting him lose back in 2008 felt the same way about Tennessee football in the decade to follow.

The one difference being that Fulmer didn't immediately go to, say Texas A&M, and build a heck of a program after the firing while we wallowed in mediocrity and dysfunction.

Fulmer should have been given one more season IMO, but I also always thought he was going to have to be pushed out instead of waiting for him to retire. I think the bigger problem was hiring Dooley instead of just letting Kippy Brown interim for a season. Dooley was a panic hire and tried to be the anti-Kiffin hire.

I also find it funny Texas also has the same type situation on the football side, they're still trying to get back to the heydey of the Brown years. Not quite the same situation since Brown did resign (though sounded like he had some pushing too) and he had 3-4 seasons of decline in a row. But they've been mostly a trainwreck since. Charlie Strong, Tom Herman, and now Sark who so far isn't looking like he's really an upgrade.

Sorry, back to college basketball....

Really odd for Clark because he is getting a lot of playing time and producing modestly impressive numbers for a freshman.
