In my view Purdue is a solid favorite to win the national title because its 7'4" center, Zach Edey, is an unstoppable force. He had 38 points
and 13 rebounds against Michigan State the other day, as Purdue cruised to a comfortable win over a good MSU team. Purdue will be the no. 1 seed
in the tourney--and some opponent will have to have a monster game to beat the Boilmakers and their very big (and very good) man in the middle in the tourney. And by monster game, I mean hitting, like, 10 threes and seriously limiting the scoring by the rest of that team. We do have a few bigs to throw at him were we to play that team. I figure at least two would foul out!
It was. No other days, ever, unless it was the big dance. However, it sort of seems like that UCLA game in the Omni could have been on a Sunday?
Do you just remember this stuff or do you look it up somewhere?
I remember there was one year where Bernard king was injured and we didn’t have him in the NCAAT. Was that the year?1977 NCAAT was a 32 team field and #7 TN draws #10 Syracuse in the opening round. Not #7 versus #10 seeds. #7 versus #10 in the AP poll. #7 should have opened with an unranked opponent.
I’ve posted this before, but one of my good friends was a student manager for the basketball team that year. Bernard apparently went out and got totally soused the night before the game. Apparently, he wasn’t feeling well the day of the game, and Ernie roughed him up a bit because Bernard compromised the team’s chances to win.1977 NCAAT was a 32 team field and #7 TN draws #10 Syracuse in the opening round. Edit: I just saw Thunder Good-Oil’s post. I guess that must’ve been a different year.

You confused that with the 1976 Bama game in Tuscaloosa, which I attended. King and Grunfeld fouled out and we were down 4 with 25 seconds left and Bama had the ball. We fouled them two consecutive trips and they missed the front of each one and one. Jackson hit a bucket each subsequent possession to tie and send into OT. We had them first OT. We were up two and Bama missed the game tying shot. Austin Clark boxed out great and had the rebound coming right to his hands to seal the win. Some Bama dude shoved him into the first row, grabs the ball and lays it in to got to a second OT where we lost.Both. I remember stuff but then verify it. cardvollfan seems to have remembered that UCLA was on a Sunday. I think that I met my Dad at the airport that day. And iirc King and Grunfeld fouled out and Mike Jackson nearly pulled it off. OT game. Marques Johnson and David Greenwood starred on that UCLA team.

Against UCLA (which I also attended) we were pretty much down 10 the entire game (back when a 10 point lead was a lot to overcome). Closest we got was 55-51 after Grunfeld grabbed a rebound and barreled the full length of the court and jammed it home. That was pretty much our high point of the game. UCLA got it back to 10 almost instantly it seemed and my buddies and I pretty much sat on our hands the rest of the game.
Jackson was amazing that game. He was a player! You confused that with the 1976 Bama game in Tuscaloosa, which I attended.
