College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

I don’t know if I’d call them “legit” this year. They have 2 Q4 losses. They’re a fine team, but if they played in a better conference they would have several more losses and wouldn’t be in the Top 25.
If they played in a better conference they also could have missed the dance last year due to having “several more losses.” But they didn’t and they came within an eyelash of the national title game. They’re legit - but we don’t have to agree.

They aren’t playing as well this year as they were last year. Two things can be true, they were “legit” last year and not so much this year. Again, they’re a good team. But they’re not a great team.

Legit in that they can beat anybody, as they did with Arizona. They also can’t sneak up on anyone this year.

Each time I watch FAU this year, I can’t help but wonder how this team made the Final 4 last year. They look fine, but they’ve not exactly been steam rolling through their conference. Currently in a battle with UAB.

FAU is a good, not great, team that played its best ball at the right time last season with a side order of good fortune. Happened with VCU in their Final Four run back in Shaka’s time there, happened for Loyola Chicago a few years later. Basketball is a funny game. An above average team playing its best ball with a good helping of good fortune on its side can accomplish a lot.

I don’t think Bama is capable of playing defense this year. I guess they’re better at it than UK?
They’re both awful. They’re both bad enough to where you can’t really say one is better than the other. Alabama plays with more energy defensively but they don’t care about giving up points. Their offense will beat all the middle of the pack to lower level SEC teams by itself.

This Alabama team will be just like the rest. Finish at the top end of the SEC but will get beat in the 2nd of 3rd round of the tournament. Their style of play will hurt them again and again

Will Baker has been on fire lately. Wasn’t overly impressed with him when I saw him play in some early season games, but he’s been on an absolute tear since LSU’s game against Arkansas a week ago. 22 points from him in the first half has LSU in it.

So at halftime Alabama has taken 23 3-pt shots. This is why I in general don’t enjoy watching basketball at any level anymore. Not the game I grew up to enjoy. Not saying it’s bad and should be changed. That version just doesn’t interest me. But seems like it’s a popular spectator version in general.

They have no rim protectors like they’ve had with better defensive teams in the past. Really takes away a lot of their ability to pressure tightly and gamble on the perimeter.
