College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

Palm’s projections are many times head-scratchers. I don’t think there’s any way Iowa State leapfrogs us, UNC, and Arizona to the one line. They’ve been behind those three all year and one game doesn’t change that.
And I was right. And, the Vols avoid Houston’s region. We are either the 1 in the West or 2 in the Midwest.

Kind of surprised to see how many teams (Pitt, St. John's, Indiana, Memphis, Washington, Ole Miss...) are declining NIT bids. The tournament made a big to-do of adjusting its bid policy to guarantee two teams per P6 conference, which sucks for them in hindsight now.

Well the officiating suckage has started already. Dude lowered his shoulder and powered into a guy set and even retreating from the first contact. Official called a block.

I'm not surprised at all. The NIT didn't change because the P5 teams wanted that to happen. The NIT made the change out of a self-serving ambition. They clearly misjudged who they thought found value in the tournament. I think they expected this change would mean more P5 teams with larger arenas and bigger fanbases would sell out venues and add to the excitement for the tournament, when in reality the only teams that value the NIT are smaller programs who want that change to play against high-major competition.

P5 teams like Indiana and Memphis have rich basketball histories. They see themselves as bigger than events like this. They were never going to sell out arenas and get jazzed about playing in a consolation prize.

Wagner beat Howard by 3 in first play in game. The 16 seed play in games are my favorite games of the whole tournament. So disorganized and full of fundamental mistakes. The teams aren’t any better than the teams in the adult rec leagues I used to play in, the players are just a lot taller.
