Kentucky wins. Jon Scheyer is such an overrated coach. All that talent and can’t win big games.
“Superstar” Cooper Flag turned the ball over twice in the final 30 seconds by over-dribbling.
Cooper Flag is still a good ball player.
Kentucky looks better but our physical style of defense should give them fits.
I mean, it's his third game and he had dominated to that point. With the game on the line, you want the ball in the hands of your best player, which Flagg clearly is for Duke. Regardless of experience, who else do you really want to have the ball there? As exciting as the game was, titles aren't won/lost in November. UK has a team full of veteran players (7 seniors), and Flagg is learning how to be a star at the highest level. This game will do a heck of a lot towards his development come March, and Duke learns as much, or more, about their team in this loss as UK does in the win.He is very good. But those were some freshmen mistakes to close out the game. If Duke doesn’t have anyone more veteran to turn to on their roster in clutch moments, it’s going to be tough for them in close games.

And now I think all that is fair criticism. It seems more like a coaching and personnel issue.Fair enough. I’m not saying that I don’t think Flagg was the right player to handle the ball at the end. But his decision to just basically take the ball in iso and then over-dribble the ball in two separate possessions cost them the game. Scheyer could have helped him by trying to run an actual play rather than just space the floor and hope he makes something happen.
Besides, my point isn’t that Flagg isn’t any good. My takeaway is just that I think Duke is going to struggle some in close games because they have no true PG and rely mostly on freshmen. Usually not a great recipe for success in big moment and Scheyer hasn’t done anything his first two seasons to give Me confidence he can figure it out with the pieces he has.
