College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

There was quite a bit of shilling for Alabama by a few folks in this very thread a couple weeks ago, many of whom believed they would manage this gauntlet of a schedule with only 2 losses. 5 games to go and they've already met that threshold.

Wonder how many of you think they are going 5-0 to finish? UK, MSU, at Tennessee, Florida, at Auburn.

In that same timeframe, there was some Florida hate, as well. I'm starting to actually believe they may be perhaps the 2nd strongest team in the SEC. They might be the deepest team. After losing Alex Condon, they haven't really missed a beat. They navigated a Walter Clayton injury, too. A top5 offense and a top10 defense. Guard depth, post depth. Easily beat Auburn at Auburn. There’s a lot to like about them.
I’ll play. I think Bama goes 3-2 in their last five.

I said it previously, they’ll be an interesting case study (not that folks will pay attention), to see how they fare. Many Tennessee fans complaining about our lack of offense point to Bama as a team they wish we’d be like, they’re essentially our polar opposite, Top 3 on one end and sub 30 on the other end…as last night and previous games have been evidence of, that strategy doesn’t work any better.

They average 81.2ppg in their 5 losses, but average giving up 89.6ppg.

We average 61.2ppg in our 5 losses, but average giving up 71ppg.

Both teams are 21-5, is one way really better than the other?
I think that’s just a knee jerk reaction from folks who saw Bama make the F4 last year while we didn’t. That was all about path though. Switch brackets and there’s no way Bama gets through Purdue, maybe not even to them.

I hate it but you’re absolutely right about the Gators. They really don’t have a weakness.

I get the thought process and generally agree about most casual fans, which unfortunately make up the majority of the bball fan base. I would go as far as to say I’m not convinced many wouldn’t prefer us being 20-6 right now and be averaging 90ppg rather than being 21-5 and averaging far less.

I don't think there's any doubt of that.

And the same people would then be whining about our lack of defense.

I think so, too, but you were one of the posters I referenced above. I think you said something along the lines of not believing Bama would lose more than 2, maybe 3 games the rest of the way when they had 9 games to play. For me, it just felt like they had an easier road early on and a very backloaded schedule, especially the last 7 games. If they make it thru these next 5 games unscathed, they definitely deserve a 1 seed.

I did say that two weeks ago. I’m now predicting them to go 3-2 in their last five. My prognostications are subject to change with the collection of additional information, just like everyone else’s - including the guys on TV who do this for a living. 😎

It's just that none of the variables have changed. So it's odd that you'd not have had that same opinion 2 weeks ago when others were saying Bama's road was about to get a lot tougher. They haven't suffered any injuries since and their schedule hasn't changed.

One thing for me is Auburn looks like the are necessarily a better team than Bama.
I said this early in the second half of their game with Auburn. I don't see them winning @ Auburn.
So there's one lost I am willing to pencil in I may not have 2 weeks ago. I think we get them at home after watching that Missouri game, too. Their defense can be even worse than I thought.
I wasn't so sure we would beat them 2 weeks ago. So there's 2 for me I wasn't sure about anyways.

Which makes what we did to them in Knoxville without ZZ and Igor even more unbelievable.
I know everybody thinks Dubar completely sucks and all, but we may want to think about playing him more when we play Flordia. He did a good job on Haugh last time around.

Dubar doesn’t suck, he’s just very inconsistent. He has his good moments for sure though.

I think they beat Alabama. I would go as far to say roll the Tide but Alabama can score a lot of points. I think we beat them, too. If we beat A&M I think we're going to be fighting Houston for that #1 seed.

It's fine that you did. You've just yet to state why when nothing has changed. You're making this more contentious than it really has to be. All I've really asked is why you've now doubled your loss prediction. You've answered twice with no answer.
All of this for four losses down the stretch instead of “maybe three.” I’ve watched Alabama play four games since then and changed my prediction. Good enough?
