College Hoops Season Is Officially Here.

Big Ten I believe is the best, but I do believe OSU is overrated. If Bama and UGA take big steps like I think they could this year, I think the SEC will have a good year.

I'll defer to the guys here who know more than me, but Ohio State at #3 minus Turner does seem a bit high.

Their two freshman big guys will have to be really, really good for them to vindicate that ranking.

I do think #3 is to high, but OSU is still a pre-season top 12 until they prove otherwise.

MSU and Purdue are both going to rack up wins this year, and Illinois could turn out to be solid also. Its pre-season, so you can't put a whole lot of stock into it, but the Big Ten certainly has a right to throw their hat in the ring.

Those are the overrated guys. They're solid, but I don't think either lives up to current billing. The hypefest for the AA games was ludicrous.

Sullinger is an NBA guy with proper coaching and motivation. I've never understood what the big deal about Thomas is.

Sullinger hype machine was just in overdrive. Kid is solid, not transcendent. Wouldn't take over Cousins.

Cousins was the most skilled pure post player at the college level since Shaq.

Sounds about right. So maye I overdid it. Wouldn't take him over many a solid college players - a la Horford.

St. Joe's had a really down year this past season and look even younger this year. It looks like they only have three upperclassmen this year. Anyone know much about their incoming freshman?

It may be the best class Phil has ever signed there. That said, this isn't a good time to be really young in the A-10.

Agreed on the league. It's solid. Don't know jack about Martelli's class.

I think if he's in shape and motivated, Horford is almost exactly the player he should be. The people who were comparing him to Glenn Robinson should start analyzing chess.

Interesting. They practice for three hours Sunday, I'll be curious to see how he treats the five freshman.

That type of comparison was the prevailing sentiment and I have seen nothing that supports it.

Glenn Robinson was the best player in a league that included Calbert Chaney, Voshon Leonard, Chris Webber, and Jalen Rose, to name a few. Sullinger most certainly isn't that guy.

For whatever reason, I was a Big Dog fan. He had it all.

Blue Ribbon's Top 25:

1. Duke.
2. Michigan State.
3. Ohio State.
4. Pitt.
5. Purdue.
6. Villanova.
7. Kansas.
8. North Carolina.
9. Illinois.
10. Kansas State.
11. Gonzaga.
12. Florida.
13. Syracuse.
14. Tennessee.
15. Kentucky.
16. Baylor.
17. Georgetown.
18. Texas.
19. Memphis.
20. Missouri.
21. Virginia Tech.
22. BYU.
23. Washington.
24. Temple.
25. NC State.

I think we deserve to be higher than 14. Guess we have to show the nation that were better than that like we do every year.

Those were some great years of basketball. I enjoyed watching that IU team with Chaney, Henderson, Nover, Graham and Evans. Sullinger shouldn't really be mentioned in the same breath as some of the guys you mention.

For whatever reason, I was a Big Dog fan. He had it all.

I had the pleasure of watching Purdue vs Duke in the 94 regional at TBA when UK failed to make it. Robinson vs Grant Hill didn't quite live up to its billing, but he did have it all for the college game.

Forgive me if my lack of pre-season college basketball rankings shows, but Virginia Tech doesn't seem like #21 to me.

Why? UT will be relying heavily on freshmen, while most of their returning players are mostly average. Hopson has the chance to be great but Williams, Bone, Tatum, Woolridge etc., are role players. I think 14 is a great spot for UT.
