Colts/Pats thread........

media hype. unless they can find a way to play against some historic nfl teams, it is a pointless thing to say.
If they go undefeated in the thick of the salary cap era, cruising through a team full of sure-fire HOF'ers like the Colts and win the SB, this year's Pats will still be easily the best of all-time.

The Pats shot themselves in the foot. Take away half of the penalties and they win big.

If the Pats don't commit the pass interferences, the Colts score atleast one maybe two TD's. Also, if Harrison was playing atleast one of the trips into the redzone would have been a TD IMO.

Id say the Colts left about 11 points on the field.

I would like to see these two teams play every week

I also felt like the pats ran a much more manilla offense than they have in the past. They didn't show much of their aerial attack until they had to in the fourth. It will be much more difficult for the Colts to go to Foxborough and pull out a W in a cold cold December game.

As for Moss, he's very good, but for anybody that thinks Brady just throws them up there to him, you're wrong. Not counting that horrific pass he threw that was way to low to the ground, he throws them where only his receiver can make a play on it. Especially on his bombs to Moss.

I don't think the Pats ran a different offense in the first half. They weren't going deep because Freeney and Mathis were going nuts. Later in the game I think those guys got worn down and couldn't keep consistent pressure on Brady. Regardless, those ends did a fantastic job against possibly the best pass blocking O-line in the NFL.

Tonight Brady threw several completions to Moss that would not have been caught by any other wide receiver in the NFL.

They had Brady off balance for the first time in a long time and Moss had to cut those deep routes short and run slants. He didnt look real comfortable coming across the middle, but Wes Welker was the ace in the hole for the Pats.

Its strange how a player like Welker can go unnoticed in college ball and come up huge in the pros.

I thought it was interesting that the matchup was basically billed as Manning vs. Brady. Those guys really didn't have nearly as big an impact on the game as everyone would expect. I think the most influential factors in the game were...

Pats return game >>>>>> Colts return game
Pats receivers >>>>> Colts current WR lineup
Pats DEs, OLBs >>>>>> Colts backup LT
Pats running game <<< Colts running game

i haven't read the whole thread, but that was a hell of a football game, and it lived up to the hype.

to me this game came down to just a few things:
1. the colts not being able to capitalize on the early game drives. 2/3 on fg's, and only 1 TD i the 1st half hurt big time. by all rights, the colts could have been up by 3 or 4 td's at the half.
2. mistakes. and it's not just the sheer number of mistakes the colts made, it was the timing. two offensive penalites on their 2nd to last possesion killed them, and when they punted with 4 minutes to go, you just knew that would be it.
3. dropped balls. Wayne and Clark both had key drops, as did Gonzales in the enzone.
4. peyton on the last drive held the ball too long and it cost 'em. the pats were going after him, bringing a lot of pressure and in what looked to be "old Peyton" he was looking down feild....where was the outlet to Addai late?

the colts played the patriots like you were supposed to. don't make mistakes, keep them off the feild, pressure Brady and force some turnovers. they did everything you were supposed to. and the pats still won. they're very good and when they had to, they got it done, so credit brady and moss and welker in the 4th qtr, that was the difference.

it will be interesting to see how it turns though with Harrison and Ugoh back on the roster if they play each other again.

the one thing i learned by watching that game was you basically have to be perfect against the pats. being almost perfect isn't good enough.

great game to watch.

oh, if there is a big positive for the colts, and it's not necessarily new news, Joseph Addai is a beast. that guy can play the game of football.

I agree with OWB. Insert Harrison Colts win, pretty easy to figure that one out. Also Colts defense is better, especially with Freeny and Mathis (sp) rushing.

That's because Moss is 6'4 and the db's are 5'10. Brady is doing what Culpepper did.

using moss's size is just smart football. Either way, most of Brady's deep passes are either gonna wind up in the receiver's hands or on the ground.

on a side note, I thought Moss couldn't go across the middle? Or was it wouldn't? Either way, he did.

Obviously, but Brady is throwing it up and Moss goes and gets it. Where did the one he threw to Donte end up? Moss has totally changed this offense and is making Brady look good. Brady is a great one but Moss has elevated Brady in a way few wr's could.

donte's big catch would've either gone OB or in donte's hands. it's a perfect example proving my point.

The one that was intercepted. Just giving you a hard time.

both the INT's were incredible defensive plays. and had the other pass not been almost caught, it would've hit the ground. I understand you're giving me a hard time, but I said for the most part. And Brady's stats back me up.

The one to Donte was a bad pass more than a good play by the db.
