Coming after Vitello

I figured, but didn't want to make assumptions. Why would we look at an older park, albeit great atmosphere, that needs a facelift? Why aren't we looking at the cream of the crop stadiums so we don't have to have this conversation again in 8-10 years? If you just pony up to do things right the first time, often times it will cost you less in the long run.

Perhaps they saw an aspect of Founder’s Park that fits CV’s vision for LNS? I’m good with whatever his vision is,

It's 12 years old and I agree it's nice. I just looked at some lists and it's a top 15 park in d1 baseball. That's awesome. The problem is it's middle of the road SEC behind Arky, MSST, Ole Miss and LSU. I just disagree with the bandaid method of putting 50-60% of the cost of a project into a "fix" (temporary?) rather than getting 20 years from a larger investment.

Between Burke and Arencebia talking like TV ain't going anywhere, I'll choose to believe that to be true.

If any two UT baseball alum would be keyed on the conversations, it would be those two......and Helton.

Things definitely seem to be trending in the right direction for us. Burke also said that CV had earned the right to listen to other programs if they came calling, which I totally understand. Still, I’m less concerned than I was before. I think UT has certainly made as an aggressive offer possible.

I disagree with Ole Miss and LSU's parks, they have a cool vibe however they aren't that nice aesthetically. I have no problem with an older park with the old-school feel.

I actually prefer the older park vibe. My bias notwithstanding, Fenway has been standing for over a century and is one of the best ballparks in all of Major League Baseball. I live in Washington D.C. and frequent Nationals games and that park is only about 10 years old and is super clean and super nice, but it has no character or identity to it.

I love parks with a tie to baseball past. The only thing I enjoy more than a trip to Fenway is catching a game in the Appalachian league.

I'm not sure I would compare Founder's Park to Fenway, but I agree with the older feel of a park. I go to Marlins games and it doesn't even have the feel of a MLB baseball game. I think that's a totally different conversation though. Aside from the preference of VolNation, there's no getting around we're in an arms race and this topic will be revisited sooner than later if we don't do it right the first time.

I agree, I'll take Wrigley Field over any new park today.....However the old St. Louis park sucked and I prefer the newer one.

The simple fact is there is no real estate to build a brand new baseball stadium right now. Any plan to build a new baseball stadium would have to come with a complete overhaul of the campus area in some form or fashion.

Bulldoze Fraternity Row? Where do those students live for a few years? Get rid of Tom Black Track? Where does our track & field team hold meets for a few years while a new track is built? Demolish LNS and build a new stadium there? Is TV okay with playing games for 2-3 years at the new Smokies stadium? There is no simple answer, so it's far more likely to renovate LNS to the 5th or 6th nicest stadium and then re-visit the idea of a brad new ballpark in 10 years if the program keeps trending up.

It doesn't have to be that complicated, unless there are underlying issues. I would put it exactly where LNS stands now and demo the current field. It's not necessary to move the team for 2-3 years. Mississippi State played every game of every season on their field while construction was happening in the offseason. It was about a 2 year project with construction not taking place in-season.

Look it's doable. That's all that matters. Once again, the "fix it for now" mentality is just something I don't agree with. Especially when the price tag for a temp fix is $30mil +.

Chris Burke was on The Swain Event this morning, and he said the UT administration has done everything it possibly can from a commitment standpoint to keep the current staff, and that they are extremely excited about the future for the baseball program.

Is "they" the UT administration or the current baseball staff?

There is a potential place to build a new stadium, and that is between Lake and Caledonia, and Volunteer Blvd and S, 27th street. The area is a rundown, decrepit old residential area, ripe for rebuild, as it is populated only with scattered old residences and parking lots. Perfect area for a renewal of purpose. I say that, however, not knowing what the University master expansion plan has in store for it.

I can't see building a state of the art facility on what is now the footprint of KNS. I'm pretty sure such an improvement won't fit on that footprint and give us the seating capacity that we would want with a 70 million dollar facility. There is absolutely zero room behind the right field fence and the road, and the right field line is in such close proximity to the fraternity properties. And close proximity to the other roadways probably all makes it too tight of a squeeze. If we build a new one (which is probably out of the question) it should be done right.

On the other hand, if current stadium is chosen for improvements, I believe that if it's done right, we could have a gem of a ball park and not have to interrupt seasons to do it.

To add to this, CV also mentioned the unique setting of LNS against the backdrop of the mountains and river. He said LNS has a intimate feel because the fans are right next to the players. LNS could be even more of a homefield advantage with added permanent seating. He said that it can have an effect on the opposing team's players.

It sure seems like he's working to maximize LNS current footprint and use it as an advantage.

It's a fair point. Besides, I feel like we're naturally forgetting about the brand new state-of-the-art Smokies stadium being built downtown that we'll probably play a series or two on each year as well. We don't need to have a Dudley Noble on campus anytime soon, just a GOOD stadium that is aesthetically nice and we can be proud of.

We can always use the Smokies stadium for big series if TV wants and that will have all the prestige and fanfare that you'd want.

Where did Burke say TV isn’t going anywhere?

I don’t see that being said here and I think it’s glaring that There hasn’t been an announcement of new contracts and facility upgrades liked happened at Texas tech.

He’s gone imo

Perfect description of Nats park.

When the roof is closed at Marlins park, it feels like an abandoned 80s era mall.

They're in negotiations. They're also preparing to play in the post season. Let it play out. There's plenty of time

I said “talking like” not that he explicitly said the exact words. I think you’re comparing apples and oranges as well, right now. The TTU stuff was two weeks ago just prior to the end of the regular season, I wouldn’t imagine you’d have a big announcement just 2 days before regionals begin. Even if it was good news that is still distracting and not what you want to focus on at the moment.

We all know you’re just hoping TV leaves so that you can be right, but I am not panicking because nothing has been announced ahead of the NCAAT.

Besides, Arencebia is probably just as plugged in as Burke and JP literally said “He ain’t leaving.”

Why do you think JP is so tied in ?
