My father works an an intermodal center (rail) in a smaller city but he said this is absolutely happening and it’s way beyond just the CA ports.Cargo Ships Anchored off NY and LA face 4-WEEK Wait to Berth and Trains in Chicago are Backed Up 25 Miles with Global Supply Chain on the Brink of Collapse: Americans face shortages of cars, shoes and exercise gear as holiday season looms
Dozens of cargo ships anchored off the coasts of Los Angeles and New York face shocking wait times of up to four weeks and railyards and trucking routes are hopelessly clogged due to the lack of manpower to unload goods - with an expert warning that the government needs to intervene or face spiraling inflation and unemployment.
- Supply chains have lagged far behind consumer demand due to a lack of manpower at US ports and restrictions that came with the COVID-19 outbreak
The backlog of billions of dollars of toys, clothing, electronics, vehicles, and furniture comes as the demand for consumer goods hit its highest point in history as consumers stay home instead of spending money on travel and entertainment.
Supply chains have lagged far behind consumer demand due to a lack of manpower at American ports and the restrictions that came with the COVID-19 outbreak early last year. These constraints, which include social distancing and mandatory quarantines, have severely limited the number and ability of port workers to do their jobs.
'Global infrastructure was not designed to handle goods at such a rate,' a logistics expert, who asked not to be named, told DailyMail.com.
'Supply chains are the artery who feeds our entire ecosystem. The government needs to intervene to stop this crisis immediately, or face increased inflation and unemployment, and economic breakdown - or face an end to global trade.'

The traffic-jams at ports on the California and Atlantic coasts have reached alarming heights in the past 18 months, and the buildup of cargo along the coasts is hindering the US' supply-chain system of railways and trucking routes

A coalition of unions that represent shipping workers around the world warned of an imminent 'global transport systems collapse'

Demand for these goods has spiked so suddenly, that when coupled with constraints, workers cannot process these products quick enough - and the demand is only continuing to increase

Ports in Los Angeles (pictured) and Long Beach - two of the most popular shipping destinations in the US - are currently housing vessels that have been left anchored for four weeks, waiting for workers to unload their cargo, filled with billions of dollars of toys, clothing, electronics, vehicles, and furniture

May be a good reason for "The South" to invest more in port facilities... just in case we do need to divorce. Mobile, Charleston, Wilmington, Savannah?
Just throwing that out there...
I look forward to Biden’s plans on removal of the evil Trump tariffs. Have you got a tweet or link for that?
Just think of it as a preview to the socialist utopia.I went to upgrade an I-phone from a lower version to an 11, and provider said they don't even have the ability to backorder it right now probably because of part shortages. They seem to only be making the 12 and 13 right now. Interestingly enough the first store I went to in Cool Springs is shutdown until the 10th. When I went to the 2nd store they said someone may have tested positive for Covid so everyone is off.
I've gone from restaurants to Macy's, and I'm finding some places are closed or going drive thru only due to staffing shortages or the shelves are half empty.

It’s Apple employees…..think about it…..My local tile shop closed because someone tested positive for Covid.
My goodness, my company has had a positive Covid case probably 70% of the weeks in the past 20 months and we never shut down.
The ignorance.
Throughout this damn pandemic, I’ve pretty much gone about my business as I did beforehand. The exception being the first couple of months when everything basically shut down.I went to upgrade an I-phone from a lower version to an 11, and provider said they don't even have the ability to backorder it right now probably because of part shortages. I'm seeing a lot of delays on LTL shipments with my main carrier.Did he say what the issue is? Why they’re so backed up?
There may be a bottleneck in the drayage area as well. Local regulations have mandated that trucks older than I think 5 years are no longer allowed access to port area for “climate“ reasons, putting some smaller carriers out of business I’m sure and forcing others to buy new trucks just to continue having access to port related business. Not enough workers to unload the ships.
