Complete Disrespect vs USU

I believe they played Auburn pretty close last year and then saw AU go into the NC game...of course down here we know that AU struggled early last year and should have lost a couple of games...the team that beat Bama and played FSU was a completely different team then the one USU played...

I think it will be a good game. I'm sure our young team will make mistakes and probably give up some big plays on busted assignments but I won't be surprised if the Vols vent some frustration at USU's expense...I think we will be very physical on both sides of the ball and keep their trainers very busy...hopefully no serious injuries on either side but I expect to see folk have their bell rung...I'd take a knee if AJ was coming after me...and Curt hasn't hit an opponent in so long he might get arrested for attempted murder...just saying...`

No. They played Auburn in 2011.

Oh and that "great" game they played against USC, they lit up USC for 280 yards total offense. That next week USC gave up over 600 yards to ASU and CLK lost his job soon after.

I'm starting to worry about this game. A talented QB with running ability, against our defense? This may be a may be a 45 to 49 type game. Possibly overtime and up in the 50's for both teams before this is settled.

No offense intended,but.... you're out of your mind.

No. Their close call last year was USC. That sounds pretty impressive until you put it in the context of what was going on with USC at that point. Kiffin's "dream job" had turned into a nightmare. The players didn't believe in him and had quit playing for him. By the time they squeaked out a win over USU they'd already been beaten by Washington St who finished 6-7 with several blow out losses, a win vs So Utah, and two wins vs 1 win teams.

The week following USU's 14 pts against them... ASU scored 62.

IOW's, USC was a complete disaster... and still beat USU last year... BEFORE USU lost all those starters and producers.

Prior to the seasons 9-5/11-2 and 7-6 they had 13 losing seasons and lost 13 of 14 to Utah. That's not exactly awe inspiring. We have a much deeper tradition and should play like it. We are both depleted in some areas. CBJ needs to put on a coaching clinic.

And that is your entire purpose for building this game up to be a complete mismatch when nothing could be further from the truth.

Good luck with that. iF it comes to pass, you can be the first to officially call for Butch Jones' dismissal. Do you think they should fire him at halftime if the game is still close at that point?

This

The comment apparently hit a little too close to home. :eek:lol: What was the score the last time you played them?

Now for you question: Reading is Fundamental. I have said UT should win but that the game will be close. I think the Vols have talent but it is inexperienced and you never know how they will react. USU has a lot of upper classmen who played over the past two years due to injuries to starters. Plus, the mobile QB is a bad matchup for the UT"s defense (see Worley's 50 yd TD run past Jalen Reeves-Maybin in the OW game)

On offense, the Aggies traditionally are tough against the run (could be scheme). While Worley is our best QB, he hasn't exactly reminded anyone of Peyton Manning.

As for how can USU win: they think they can and they have won some meaningful games over the past two years. Vols haven't played in a meaningful game in a while (one with any implications). Matchups, and just plain catching a team on a roll at the wrong time (see Vols vs Scarolina last year).

Again, Vols should win but USU is much better than the WKU team y'all are crowing about. I'd take a one point win right now and move on. This team will get better as the year rolls on, provided they gain confidence in these first two.

If you are so smart and so sure, bet all you can on the Vols and pay off some bills. Should be easy money, right? BTW: I hope you are right!

Plus, if you think the Vols are better off after firing Fulmer, we can't discuss that subject. You continue to side with John Adams and Mike Hamilton and I'll take the side of the former players who know what was going on.

And This

Just a guess based on one of my favorite traits that Jones seems to be revealing about himself... but I think he coordinates EVERYTHING. I would be very surprised if he weren't fully involved with the D and assuring that the efforts of the D and O support each other.

IMO that was a strength of Fulmer's also though I tend to think Jones is more capable of coaching the details.

I agree 100%. I think CBJ has his finger prints on everything that happens with Tennessee Football.

And the great Chuckie Keeton you ask??...

21-39, 179 yds, 2tds, 19.5 QBR
12 carries, -15 yds, long of 6 yds

I guess watching Auburn and Oregon score at will against us last year has me wigged out about mobile QB's. If either of those teams wanted to, they could have hung nearly 100 on our defense ( left 1st string in and kept peddle to the metal ). Now, I know USU is not in Auburn or Oregon's league, but they still scare me. Once again, I'm thinking we win 35-24.

I love the optimism many of you have about how bad the Vols are going to win this weekend. I hope you are right, hey, I even hope you are underestimating how much UT will win by.

BUT, the Vols do have 17 true freshmen in the two deep depth chart. I think we will have moments of greatness this season and moments of "what in the world are they doing." Y'all better be patient.

/thread.

Better yet, I can't believe we're having a conversation about "winnable games" when mentioning Tennessee and Utah State in the same sentence. For someone who was in Sun Devil Stadium when the Vols won the national championship -- along with countless other classics -- this is tough to take.

Amen.

I am in the same boat.

And what's worse is that some folk on here act like this is a vintage 90's era team because of 1 good recruiting class and a nice attitude from the head coach.

I won't pretend to have any idea what to expect out of this game Sunday.

If our team needs to spend time lurking through USU articles for motivation then we're in trouble.
Your 21 negavol cohorts agree with you. The rest of us still consider you to be the one who's always farting on the elevator.:yuck:

I don't think a superficial fan should feel any different based on the last few years. The same goes for Cincy, NCSU, and WKU in recent years. Their fans had good reason to think that UT was vulnerable for a loss. IMHO, USU is similar to WKU. They are neither as good nor as talented as Cincy or NCSU were. This UT team IMO is better than any of those 3.

I agree but the VOLS youth and inexperience scares the heck out of me in this first game.
