Confederations Cup Finals U.S -v- Brazil

Great, the announcers are now making excuses or concessions about US soccer...

This is why soccer isn't big here. We accept that we aer not ever going to be a real force. We shouldn't be satisfied with losing by one to Brazil. There's no reason we have to settle for not being a world-class team.

Announcers always make concessions to the losing team. How much have you heard about how it was just great the the Cardinals even made it to a super bowl this year after that team's history.

Also, we settle for it b/c people just don't care. Like the cards again, if you have a traditionally bad-to-god-awful team and they finally get good, sure there will be some following if they do well but most of the fans will have stop watching a long time back

..........great, we're the arizona cardinals of the world of soccer :banghead2:

This. We are USA. We don't accept moral victories. This half was sickening.

True, but the other half of that unfortunately is - as USA - if our teams keep not winning, oftentimes many of us go on to cheer for someone else

Beating the #1 team in the world with that win streak and then playing in the Final with Brazil seems pretty world class to me.

Went to the store that I've been going to for years during the second half. The Arabs that make their living here were screaming in support of Brazil. They got the last dime of my business when they rang up that beer.

Confederations Cup: U.S.-Brazil play-by-play - ESPN

Write up on blog at the end of the game:

It's all over. The U.S. team falls just short with a heroic effort against Brazil. Having said that, the U.S. was almost a non-factor in the second half, struggling to maintain possession and trying to hold on against the Brazilian siege. However, the first-half peformance by the U.S. was spectacular, before perhaps running out of gas in the second half. Bradley's two subs were curious choices and didn't really bring much to the table.

Overall though, U.S. fans have to be extremely proud of the team and the performance today. If nothing else, U.S. fans can take heart, it clearly shows the performance against Spain wasn't a fluke.

To be world class, or to truly be a top team, you have to WIN something. Once we have won something, these kind of showings would be enough to sustain that image. But this is the first time we have ever even BEEN in a final.

You have to win something.

Did you tell them that? I have had a similar thing happen at a restaurant, once. They were going against the US and for a team that they had no ties to (it wasn't like their homeland or anything). I cancelled my order, and walked out. When they asked what the problem was, I told them.

But then, I have issues.

Good for you.

FULLTIME. Brazil 3, U.S. 2. What a heartbreaker. The Americans came out the better team, took advantage of their chances and looked like they could pull off the biggest upset of all. In the end, Brazil's depth, talent and experience was too much. The U.S. did absolutely everything it could and should hold its head up high. It was a matter of running out of gas and the favorites kicking it into extra gear.

Postgame: It's a bit of a depressing end to a fantastic run for the U.S. at the Confederations Cup. For 45 minutes, it looked like the Americans were going to win their first major trophy. But the U.S. earned some respect at this tournament -- I can't tell you how many e-mails and texts I've received from my English, Spanish and Brazilian friends telling me how impressed they were with the Americans' performance in South Africa, especially after the debacles of the first two games.

The U.S. walks out of this tournament knowing that it can compete with the best teams in the world, especially when it's properly motivated and prepared. That's a huge dose of confidence to ride heading into next summer's World Cup, in the same country. Some U.S. players did themselves especially proud and can use their performances to move to bigger clubs and leagues, or to play more prominently with their current teams -- Onyewu, DeMerit, Davies, Altidore and Spector come most immediately to mind.

No. They gave me business for my home business. I give them business for years. But it pisses me off and never ceases to amaze me the hatred that people that make their living in my country hold for the U.S.A. They had a crazy look in their eyes, talking about how our crooked team paid off the refs, etc... I tried to say that I agreed that it was a goal but it is impossible for a ref in the middle of the field to see if it had crossed the plane. Then his eyes got crazy talking about how we held players and cheated.
F him, F his business. I'm done with them.

Should have told him off.

Good write-ups, but Altidore needs to start going all in every game, like he did with Spain. He pulled way back through the course of the Brazil match, to the point of embarrassment. I am glad he got taken out.
