I just read on another thread that got merged right after I asked if it had been confirmed that nebraska accepted an invitation to the Big 10. Does anybody know if it is true? If so, that may start the ball rolling on this realignment talk.

Will be formally announced tomorrow. Could be sooner though like later tonight if too much starts happening.

why?

1. you add two states to the SEC (NC and VA). True, but really not much of a market in those states honestly.
2. you make the SEC a great basketball league to go with being a great football league. SEC basketball ticket sales would jump dramatically if you added north carolina and duke. The SEC would definately increase its basketball prestige with those teams, but right now the big money is in football television contracts, NOT basketball.
3. florida state adds another football power. I agree, great addition to a football conference.
4. you pull north carolina and duke from the ACC and you destroy the ACC. destroying the ACC would kill the one competitor the SEC has in the south. the SEC would be superior to the ACC in football and basketball. The ACC isnt a threat to SEC for football revenue as it is. The truth is if this thing goes down, the ACC is likely toast anyway, regardless of who leaves. They royally botched thier own expansion.
5. the fact that the teams i am mentioning adding are poor at football (except FSU) would not keep the SEC from being regarded as a superior football league. Maybe, maybe not. It would depend on who the other conferences were adding, but you stand to gain more by adding some of the other teams that the ACC has to offer that have better football traditions/relevancy.

I don't understand why the SEC would want either FSU or Miami. Few travelling fans, average basketball teams, ZERO history (compared to the SEC). In 1998 it was pathetic how few FSU fans went to a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game. If they don't travel for that, what? Miami is even worse, of course.

They do, unless your history starts after 75 years of NCAA football.

One of your examples (LSU) won a NC (AP) in football before anyone ever heard of Miami U. Of course you know about KY in BB. Ole Miss also was top ten before Miami or FSU was a splinter in Florida's eye. Look at the NCAA overall records. I know you don't want to, but look anyway.

Hey, both Miami and FSU have accomplished tremendous things in their very short history....but neither fanbase wants to attend games their own team plays. This is a big factor. Except for freeloader Vandy, this doesn't happen in the SEC.

This! Texas is about to extort the heck out of whichever conference gets them. The SEC should not get sucked into giving Texas concessions. ATM on the other hand would be more than happy to join the SEC. They have a great brand/pedigree, good academics, and would allow the SEC a foothold into Texas. Oklahoma is a no-brainer.

Balance the conference by adding 2 teams from the east and the SEC will be just fine.

Louisville, Memphis, Cincy, Clemson, etc don't bring $ to the conference. I'd protest if any of them were included. One could argue that South Carolina and Arky were the wrong teams to offer 20yrs ago if the main goal was increasing conference revenue.

Adding Oklahoma and Texas A&M would be a big thing for the SEC. Honestly adding any ACC team would keep us neutral at best. Adding Oklahoma and A&M would add to the conference.

Texas and Oklahoma, yes. A & M, no way. Anybody from the Big 12 except A & M or Baylor IMO. They both have exactly nothing to offer. This is the 21st century, not the 12th.

Money is going to ruin college sports the same as it has pro sports. JMO.

Money is going to ruin everything my friend... sports are the least of our worries. But I see your point. I watch sports to detract from thought of our idiotic govt and the job market. lol

I could see A and M and one other TX school. Maybe the two OK's or two from the east. Leave the horns alone... they need to join ND in the elite 2. lol

This is what greed gets you--stupid mega-conferences that will NOT be a good thing for fans. Scheduling will be absurd--you won't play six more teams every year. The megaconference works somewhat in basketball because, say, 7 or more Big East teams can be in the NCAA tournament. But it doesn't work in football.
