Conference Realignments

Mike Slive is playing his cards right. He is holding his hand close so to be ready to raise the stakes. Contrary to hat some think, the ACC schools are not off limits.

UNC is Mike Slive's "great white whale". If he can land UNC, he can likely land either VT or UVA and then add Florida State. That way he picks up the states of Virginia, North Carolina, and adds a marquee football school with brand power.

What's so easy about it?

Texas
USC
Oklahoma
Oregon

That's the 4 best teams in any conference. The depth of the SEC might be slightly better.

Perhaps for the next couple of years.

Oregon is new on the scene, has been exposed both times they took on a strong SEC opponent, and is staring at NCAA sanctions.

USC will always be a national name, and they should, but they are about to be craptacular once their schollie limits kick in.

A more accurate list wouldn't include Oregon, and USC is going to have a tough go of it pretty soon. It would likely be even or slightly below the SEC's top 3 of LSU, Bama, and Florida. And certainly the SEC's depth is MUCH better.

You really think UNC would leave Duke?

I have to disagree. Under the right administration they have the facilities and the potential to be an SEC football team, their basketball team will immediately become one of the top if not the top team in the conference, there is a huge fan following, and their academics are higher than most SEC schools.

It is a school that has had much success as of late. There are only 2 schools in the entire country that have won a BCS bowl game, went to the mens basketball final four, womens basketball final four, and went to the college world series in the past 7 years. That is Florida and Louisville.

Florida has never been to the Women's Final Four. That doesn't change your point about Louisville though. I'm just surprised a KY fan is pushing for them. Do you want them to get in the SEC, or are you just trying to convince everyone of the possibility?

Just heard on 3HL, news is breaking that Missouri has an official invite to join the SEC. Will look for link.

It's probably an official unoffical invite.

I guess the Big 10 doesn't want them. I would have thought with all the moves the Missouri to B10 talk would have heated back up.

Told y'all this as well. RT @DanWetzel: RT @sptwri Missouri has offer from SEC but SEC is willing to wait on implosion of Big 12.

Couldn't find any other reputable news source reporting this yet.

I would be very pleased with aTm, Mizzou, Lousiville, and Kansas.

Best available markets, keeping conference as southeast as possible, instant basketball upgrade.

Anyway, if we add TAMU and Missouri, then I hope the SEC stays put unless we have a shot at big dog like Va Tech.

based on the proposed pac 12 big east merger the SEC must be proactive here to get a 14th... the acc teams really don't look up for grabs... IMO we must go solicit West Virginia... Chris Low on ESPN has repeated this several times.... I for one think this would be a good school to get in!

Why, because they're ranked?

There's no doubt. Even though Notre Dame seems best fit for the Big 10, they don't like each other. Notre Dame would join the ACC just to tell the B1G to go **** themselves

Likely would help us

Actually, whatever keeps the big 10 stagnant in this longer helps us

ESPN said they'd (the Irish) go to the big east if they had no other options
