Conference Realignments

Dude, WVa is a better program than what you think. A lot of positive history going back a long time in both football and basketball. I think WVa is a great addition--definitely better than Missouri, TCU or the like.

Wrong.

They have a terrible history, terrible fans, and terrible draw.

Lose-lose.

Of the failing conferences, Missouri is the most attractive candidate for the SEC. After that it's a huge drop off to WVU.

I hope Slive can work a little magic and poach a quality program from the ACC. Va Tech has made it clear they aren't moving, but I think they would be the clear #1. But I'll be honest, NC State wouldn't be a terrible addition. I'd rather have them than WVU.

I'd rather have Appalachian State than West Virginia.

I don't get the ECU talk. There's no way I can see them being added, especially not over a TCU or Louisville. And it's really sad we're even talking about TCU or Louisville.

The non-BCS leagues will not expand beyond 12 just because the big boys are doing it. It's not like ESPN is going to give the little guys a massive tv deal just because they've grown.

And, I think the Big Ten would stay at 12 despite what's going on around them before they'd pick up UC or UofL. The Big Ten is going to look at academics.

I'd rather stay at 14 than add ECU. Good grief, whoever first posted that. WVU bring bring some Pittsburgh tv sets, because Morgantown picks up Pittsburgh's local channels, in addition to the small channels in Clarksburg, WV, where I actually worked some time ago. WVU doesn't open the doors to a talent-rich state like TAMU does, but they won't hurt the SEC's brand. WVU would fit in better than some people think.

We just got back from cocky Gainesville, and we don't want WVU because of their fans?

WVa has been a significantly better rpogram over the past ten years than us.

Our fans have been known to burn a few coaches as well. See, the Kiffin fiasco.

68,000 Missouri
62,000 ECU(It's currently 50,000 but they're expanding to 62,000)
60,000 West Virginia
56,000 Louisville
35,000 Cincinnati

Of the group, Louisville would be the worst addition. If the point of expanding is to make money and open up new markets, Louisville does nothing. Louisville would contribute about as much to the conference as Vanderbilt does. We've already got the Kentucky market locked up. UK has more basketball fans than Louisville and Louisville is really no better in football. What do they bring to the table?

Adding ECU wouldn't be ideal but it's more ideal than Louisville. Plus, they've been growing rapidly and I'm pretty sure they sell out every game. If they joined the SEC, I have a feeling their fan base would increase by a large margin. They'd be in a BCS conference and they'd be the only North Carolina team outside of the ACC. Having cool uniforms doesn't hurt either.

62,000 ECU
60,000 North Carolina
60,000 North Carolina State
34,000 Duke
31,500 Wake Forest

I guess I don't see why ECU couldn't improve tremendously if they got out of CUSA. Especially if they're joining the best conference in the country. They're renovating their stadium and building new practice facilities for basketball. They just expanded the stadium to 50,00 and they're already planning to expand to 62,000.

Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Expansion at East Carolina University

1967–1968 - increased seating capacity to 20,000
1977–1978 - increased seating capacity to 35,000
1996–1998 - increased seating capacity to 43,000
2010 - increased seating capacity to 50,000

East Carolina has received permission from the North Carolina General Assembly to plan a new pressbox and upper deck on the south side of the stadium. This expansion will increase seating to 62,000.

Plans are in place to construct a 48,000-square-foot practice facility on the north end of Minges Coliseum and will include separate practice courts for men and women along with separate coaches' office suites, separate team locker rooms and separate team meeting rooms. It will also house the ECU Athletics Hall of Fame and an area specifically designed for Pirate Athletics' memorabilia for fans and visitors to enjoy.

Agreed about ecu. They are quickly becoming the biggest show in town in their own state.

I wouldn't put a great deal of weight on stadiums now. These days TV revenue is much more important from the conference's standpoint.

What does ECU bring in TV markets? 1/4 of Raleigh?

I would rather have NC State too. But the new $20m buyout makes things more difficult. East Carolina gets the SEC into ACC Territory without having to snag an ACC School, its near the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill Triangle, and would give the SEC a closer presence to the Richmond "DelMarVa" area that seems to be exploding in population and is plush with recruiting talent.

ECU has a huge enrollment and their pretty serious about football (their fans are).

I am telling you all they need is the backing of a good conference and they could be a good team in a few years.

ECU isn't a top tier school in their own state. Forget about them, we don't need that **** in the SEC

Imo, put ecu in a major conference and it becomes the premier football program in that state within four years.

And that includes the panthers. :)

Clay Thomas said that Florida/Georgia/South Carolina will block any other school from their state from joining
