Conference Realignments

Take OU/OSU/A&M/Mizzou.

Go to a pod system with:

B12 pod
Ole Miss/MSU/LSU/Arky pod
UK/UT/Vandy/USCe pod
UGa/Florida/Bammer/Auburn pod

Tweak those as you wish.

The 'pod' alignment works wonderfully when you think that the four megaconferences might break from the 'AA and form a playoff made up of pod winners playing until a conference champion is crowned, which would make up the semi-finals of a national playoff.

I don't think for a second that the SEC doesn't already have #14 locked up, probably 15 & 16 too. Just because formal announcements aren't made doesn't mean that plans are not in place. Slive is too smart to put a deal in place for A&M without thinking about how the dominoes would start falling.

Yeah, the pac has renegged. If the sec adds the right teams, then it could get paid like the best conference in america. If it stands pat, it won't get top dollar and will no longer be top dog.

Do nothing and the sec loses its place as the premier football conference.

Pac16.......5
New ACC...5
Big Ten.....4
SEC..........8 if we stop after aTm,
...............9 if we take aTm and WVU

Whether or not we add Missouri, TCU, Louisville, South Florida, Kansas, etc. to get #15 and #16 isn't going to change our standing as the premier conference in college football

I really feel like the SEC has bungled this all up. If you are going to be proactive enough to get this whole mess restarted with aTm, then you darn well better be proactive enough to look at other teams.

I wonder about this too. I'm not sure how much difference proactiveness makes, though. Maybe there just aren't any real great pick ups (e.g., Oklahoma) available no matter what the conference does?

I thought what was being debated was the value of TV contracts?

He said that if we did nothing we might lose the top tv contract in college football and lose our standing as the premier conference in college football.

I agree with the first part - other conferences are better positioned around major metropolitan areas in the country and major tv markets and might indeed get better contracts than us.

I was disputing the second part - if some other conferences are more aggressive about adding Texas Tech, Rutgers, U Conn, Kansas, Missouri, etc., that's not going to change who the premier conference in college football is.

Andy Staples says WVU not 14th option for SEC. Thank the football gods (for now).

Realignment update after getting some feedback from those who know: Pump the brakes on Tex/Pac-12. Might happen. Not imminent.

No it isn't. RT @SyrNYBones: West Virginia to SEC is the next move

Because I was told no. And I trust who told me. RT @derek_calvert: Why are you saying no to WVU when several others are saying yes?

Andy_Staples Andy Staples
That would be my guess, but Big 12 has to implode first. RT @seeeek: MU is SEC #14??

Put USC, Oklahoma, Texas and Oregon in the same conference, and it becomes the premier conference in the country, and worth far more money than anybody else.

With Syracuse and Pitt headed to the ACC, here's my amatuer opinion.

Currently the ACC has 14*, SEC has 13*, and Big 10 has 12.

The Big East is down the sh*tter, so I'd say the remaining teams bail.

Rutgers and Uconn go to the ACC and West Virginia + USF or Louisville to the SEC.

Missouri moves from the Big 12 to the SEC.

The SEC now has 16 and the ACC has 16.

The PAC-12 picks up 4 Big 12 teams.

The Big Ten chooses 4 of the remaining Big East and Big 12 teams with the additional possibility of Notre Dame.

How nuts would it be if the SEC got Texas?

I know it's highly, highly unlikely, but how do you think the Aggies would feel?

sigh

TEXAS DOESNT WANT TO COME HERE BECAUSE WE WON'T GIVE THEM THEIR OWN TELEVISION NETWORK!

(sorry, but this sometimes comes up....actually alot)

Technically, since TLN is an ESPN network, there wouldn't be a conflict in the SEC. The content of the network might have to change a bit, but it would probably be able to stay mostly intact. Especially since with more teams, we will need more TV slots.

Texas won't ever come to the SEC, but losing the Longhorn Network wouldn't be the reason why. It's because they are scared of us.

Would you rather be a middle of the road SEC team, rarely sniffing an SEC title bid.

or

Play in the ACC and be a perennial favorite to win the conference?

I don't doubt this. I'd say Mizzou would be #14. But I don't think that discounts the SEC from adding WVU. They'll probably be #15 or #16 along with someone like Louisville.
