Confident USU Fans (blue cool-aid)

Like your post, and it seems very well thought out, but you can not compare those teams to an SEC school, it just in not the same. Try playing USC every Saturday, bet they win 10 out of 12 times. That is what SEC schools do every time we play a conference team... the PUNCH is harder, the PASSION is deeper, the COMMITMENT is stronger...every SATURDAY....try that with your schedule and the other schools play that same schedule....you'll see what it takes to play in the SEC. The SEC Championship, is as big as the NC in the south. Sure we have teams in the lower half of the conference. Play Kentucky 12 times, but they win 7 out of 12.........the STAMINA of our SEC players is beyond any team's comprehension outside the P5. SEC Fans might go after each other, but any time a non-P5 wants to bump chest with THE CONFERENCE that all conferences are compared to. A Famous man once said " You've got to beat the man, to be the man" and the SEC is still TOP DOG!!! Team come to beat us, we come to BE US.........S E C........there is no other.

GBO!!!!

Not only did the post i'm responding to ASK me to compare UT to the teams I listed, but I even said what you said. Dont know what else you want. he asked me "How many teams in your conference run a similar offense to the one UT runs and how have the Aggies done against them?"

Utah St. is a good football team, but...

Neyland at night
Hungriest Fan Base in America
Opening game of the season
Probable hot / high humidity weather
Cross country travel
Butch Jones

I'm more worried about Ark. St. sneaking in on us in the early game the next week.

You have a good team. I think we're all just shocked that the consensus on the USU forum is that you all are going to come in here and run roughshod over our team in front of 102,455 at night.

It is not the Xs and Os, it's the Jimmys and the Joes. Spread, Pro Style, Hybrid, 3-4, 4-3, nickel etc...it does not matter, execution, ability and flat out athletes in the SEC.......sure USU has players, but my point, play a schedule ranked in the top 10, bet those stats look different on both sides of the ball. Boise State showed if you play weak teams, you can beat an OU once in awhile. Injuries my friend is the achilles heel of the SEC, take the superior athlete off the field most any decent team has a chance.

Dang.

I was in the upper north endzone. We were under the overhang but that helped none. Ended up going to the top and were still getting pelted as if from a firehose. I remember hugging and sheilding my wife. After we were thoughly soaked everybody that was left started singing Rocky Top and dancing. Helped that there wasn't a short supply of warmth in a bottle. Most were well prepared.

I was up there as well my seats are in zz11, remember the buffoons who rain on to the field and security had to go try and get them.

I'm not super familiar with UT's style. I would assume from watching them they are a spread offense with pro style elements since worley runs the read option and spread out WRs but also run it up the middle with a big RB.

I'll go conference and non-conference

BYU: very similar to UT's offense from what I've seen. Beat us by 17 last year, but it was the game CK went down and we didn't pull the redshirt off garrison like we should have. we were down 3 with the ball when CK got hurt.
last four years we beat them once, lost by 3 once, and lost on a last second touchdown once. overall, close games against a team with a stifling defense and an average to very good offense (depending on the year)

Utah: probably the most similar. lost by 4 last year after leading much of the game, beat them in OT the year before. they have a big QB who is slightly mobile but not like most dual threats.

USC: lost by 3. story of our season. They started inside their 40 seven times in the game, scored 17 points. their RB had one rush over 10 yards all game. marquise lee had two plays over 15 yards, but those corners were probably better than this year's version (though they weren't playing well AT ALL at that point of the season. they were all fresh starters too).

Fresno: spread it all out, lots of WR shotgun quick passes. Held Carr (early 2nd round pick) to his 3rd lowest QB rating. but again, we lost. by 7. i think we would have beaten them in the beginning of the season. had CK and Garretson out with injuries, plus our RB, 2 OL, 1 DB, and 1 LB. Defense did well, held them to 24 (they scored 38 or more in 10 games)

Wyoming is similar to UT but I know if I go into detail about how we dominated them, it'll be dismissed because they aren't a household name like BCS schools or byu/fresno even.

Overall, I'd say SJSU (won by 28, had NFL QB), Boise (lost by 11), Hawaii (won by 37), and wyoming (won by 28) are most similar to UT in conference, but without the players UT has (except boise, but again, Garretson should have been starting and he wasn't, otherwise it is probably a closer game. With CK, easily a one score game either way).

Our defense held 24 out of the last 27 teams below their season average for points. 19 of those were held to 20 or less. With CK at QB, we have lost by more than a touchdown just once since September 2011.

we will see how that goes with new corners this year, but we replaced every corner and both safeties last year after having one drafted higher than lawson was in last year's draft.

You'e setting youself up for a lot of disappointment.

that thread is for a game that awards points based on a few variables. people always pick usu to win because it makes the game more fun when you don't have to cheer against USU. since everybody does it, it doesn't hurt you to also pick USU. I picked UT to win.

Fick. U seem like a good poster. We have no place to say we will roll anyone. We haven't done anything in a while. But we are turning the corner. There is just no way to know how we will play. Too many unknowns. Hope for injury free game on both sides. Props to you for claiming your team

how? the part where I say UT will win? or do you really believe you'll have 2 guys rush for 100 yards and i'll be disappointed?

I see where you coming from, and I get it. I think you post comes across as a challenge between USU's conference and UT's.......I'm sure it will be a good game, I am not sure who will win, but I take a little exception, not saying you said this, but any conference outside the P5 can compare their teams or schedules success and state that this means we have a good Offense of good Defense and as good as ANY SEC team...that is stretching it.

wow fans that believe in their team..

Some of our regulars around here need to take notes..

of course they are wrong, we are going to destroy them. They do not have the speed or size to stay with us for long. They might make it a half decent game through the first quarter or so if Utah's coach hypes them up on enough emotions.

But lets face it.. we have third teamers that would be starting for them.

They have one player that has a chance to make it to the NFL. And I can name 10 off the top of my head that have a solid chance from our team.

As long as him name isn't SGT York, we will be okay :salute:

no chance.

2013
Utah leading rusher: 47 yards
USC: 97 (nobody else over 13)
BYU: 79 (hill had 14. averaged 103)
boise: 109 (rest of team combined for 3 yards)
NIU: 39 (lynch averaged 150)

2012
utah: 96 (next best was 19)
wisconsin: 139 on 37 carries (oh and he finished 4th in the heisman vote the year before) next best was 18

2011:
auburn: 57

USU has given up 100 yards rushing to anybody just twice in the last 40 games. The closest anybody came to getting two 100 yard rushers was having two guys go for 139 and 18 yards.

I think tennessee will win. But they aren't going to have 2 guys rush for 100 yards. In fact, odds are that Tennessee won't rush for 200 yards as an entire team combined.
NIU didn't do it with a top 10 rushing offense. wisconsin didn't do it with the #13 rushing offense. Auburn didn't do it (31st). byu didn't do it (7th).

Run defense is our team's biggest strength. We have 4 returning starters on the front 7. Only 1 on the front 7 didn't take at least 20-30 snaps a game all season last year. If there is a blowout, which there very well could be, it'll be due to your WRs, not your RBs (who I do think are good), especially not with 5 new starters in their first game together blocking for them.

Oh good grief man. This is where the disconnect happens. NIU 10th rushing offense and BYU 7th? THEY DONT PLAY ANYONE. With an SEC schedule they don't break Top 50 rushing offenses. Likewise, Tennessee with their schedules are easily Top 10 in several categories.

Honestly, do you look at a "Top 7 BYU rushing offense" and think "wow, that really is the 7th best rushing offense in the country"? Through all the Bamas, the Oklahomas, the Oregons, the Power-5 conference champions, the Power 5 conference runner ups, you think BYU had the legitimate 7th best rushing? It should be telling to you that of the teams you listed, the tougher the conference the lower the rushing offense. Wisconsin with Montee Ball came in lower ranked on your list than NIU and BYU, because they play in a tougher conference. And as a side note to that, the other Power-5's have ZERO respect for the Big 10.

C'mon man.

i never made any of those claims, and again, i was just answering the question that asked me to compare similar offensive styles in our conference to UT.

We've played teams that were better than UT at least once a year for the last 3-4 years. We haven't beaten any of them. but we haven't been blown out either. I also think this year's team is better than last year's, especially with CK.

I like Ficklez. He got some good ol boys mad up in here!

Hey man do you really think with all you guys lost that you will be better? And what has Keeton looked like this camp post ACL?

And you KNOW Michigan fans said it about Appy State.

Overconfidence is a hellava drug.

You're talking about exceptions, not rules. No one is arguing its impossible for USU to win. On any given Saturday anything could happen.

For every Appy State/Michigan there are 50+ examples of the better team from the better conference winning. If USU wins it will be the exception, the thread is about them acting as though it would be the rule.

Have you seen our fans? They do the same thing with FL, Bama etc.

Exactly. For one thing, it seems to be like two people saying silly things like that on their board. The Hickaggie guy seems like alot of our fanbase when we go to play teams we're outmatched against. They have good reason to be somewhat optimistic about this game. Their team has a lot of experience that we don't. One fatal mistake they will make is if they underestimate our terrible qbs. Worley isn't the most consistent guy, but if he gets a hot hand he's good enough to beat anybody with all else being equal. They will have to play well to beat us , because there's no way we take them lightly with the past seasons we've had.

What was USUs strength of schedule for the past 3-4 years? Just beating a team that was better than UT the past few years doesn't mean anything. We are going to be much better this year than you think.
