As game day draws closer, I want to take the opportunity, first and foremost, to thank our Oregon visitors, who, with one notable exception, have been extraordinarily courteous and respectful visitors. In another thread, DucksflyinPAC conveyed how impressed the Oregon faithful who attended the 2010 game were with the hospitality they received from the Big Orange Nation. He specifically stated the following:

“Tennessee fans treated Oregon fans really nice. UO fans were actually blown away. (Remember this point because it may indeed come back to protect you). My roommate said that during the storm some nicer, older Tennessee guy took him in his pickup to shelter him from the rain and offered him tons of whisky to get him warm. My roommate does not drink but he appreciated the gesture very much. And I heard very many other reports, from him, talking to other Ducks there, the same thing happened to them. Tons of nice Tennessee people offering shelter in a bad storm offering them booze. Such kindness of Tennessee people left a great impression on us

For my fellow Vol Fans who are gearing up soon for the trip to Oregon, I also wanted to wish them a safe and enjoyable trip and share a little additional evidence that our hospitality did, indeed, leave an indelible impression on the Oregon faithful. The following comments were excerpted from 247Sports:

FLYdux: “I would love to hear ducks fans actually cheer Tennessee as they take the field this week. We should be grateful for those teams/fans who are willing to put up with our obnoxious fan-base while facing such a difficult opponent. It is all too easy to let sportsmanship fall by the wayside (very much so after a few beers). Often times I make the mistake of only enjoying a win, but sports are about so much more than that. From what I've heard, Tennessee lived up to their end of the bargain when we visited

Gilver: “Regardless, I also hope that UT fans are treated well. I hope I can make it to the game, but I am unsure if I can. Either way, if any duck fan sees another duck fan giving a UT guy a hard time....slap him in the face, and tell him to say he's sorry. I don't often hear of the kind of hospitality that our fans were shown in Tennessee. It at the very least deserves the same kindness in return

Sheldonduck66: “They absolutely showed our folks a great time back in Knoxville. Let's welcome them at the tailgates and as they take the field and then let nature take its course on the field.”

Duckworth424: “I unfortunately won't be in Eugene this weekend but the UT fans deserve the red carpet to be rolled out for them. I made the trip to Knoxville and had an unbelievable experience. The fans, the students, all of Knoxville was amazing! UT fans buying us drinks for making the trip, them letting us sing the fight song after they sang Rock Top, fans thanking us for coming out and wishing us luck the entire season (and asking us to whoop Kiffins and the Trojans) while walking out of the stadium after whooping their teams ass.... Nothing but class and respect from their fans, do the same for them. They deserve it

Hoopster: “Roll out the red carpet and show some serious hospitality to all the UT fans! A friend of mine went back to the game back there and said the UT fans were awesome and fun to party with, inviting them to tailgate and fed them more than they could try and eat! Lock your single women up though, Vol fans this duck does love those southern belles.

Alkiduck: “I am so glad that this post was started. I went back by myself for the Tennessee [game] and cannot tell you all how hospitable the Tennessee fans were that weekend. I was invited on an amazing boat (3 bathrooms) with only Tennessee fans and they were so nice. Everyone I spoke to from Tennessee really wanted us to have a great experience. Obviously they all wanted the Vols to beat the Ducks, but they exhibited some of the best sportsmanship that I have experienced. I just hope the Duck fans this weekend will cheer hard for the Ducks WHILE being kind and respectful of all of the Tennessee fans that make the trip

I apologize for the length of this post, but some principles transcend the game itself. Go Big Orange!!

:hi: I heard only good things from our fans returning from Knoxville, and this is one of the best CFB boards I've found. Thanks for putting up with me and please enjoy your visit to Eugene!

I remember seeing an older man outside the bookstore by the stadium. He had a stuffed animal Smokey dog with a noose around its neck holding it out in front of him while blowing his duck call. That's all I recall about their fans unfortunately.

I think overall Oregon is a class program. You don't hear about the players going on TV and running their mouths, the coaches have always been respectful dealing with other programs and the fans appear to be supportive (rabid lol) while not being boisterous.

Also, seems like our program is similar.

You're joking, right?

Coming from the West coast, I can say that Oregon fans are some of the most classless, obnoxious fans in the Pac 12. They are a lot like Florida was in the 90's, having only recently discovering winning football. I'm glad that UT fans rolled out the red carpet for them, but I would be shocked to see them do the same for us.

I realize that growing up in Washington, and being a fan of Washington puts me in a difficult position... As a Vol alumni I want to think that Vol fans will be treated well, but I've seen how they act against their conference rivals, and it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

The 5 or 6 Oregon Fans I sat near in 2010 were the nicest visiting fans I have ever say near. We spent pre-game talking about different places we had visited. Additionally after the game he talk me to keep my head up instead of gloating and I told him I hoped the ducks beat Kiffin''s ass.

This may be the saving grace for fans this weekend, the mutual hatred of Kiffin.

I think Distance and lack of history played a huge part, people able to travel coast to coast weeds out a certain group ya know....and for the most part most TN fans were not expecting a win.....I was there and we had some Duck fans pressed close in our area when we took shelter during storm, including a handicapped gentleman, all the Vol fans tried to make sure he had space in already claustrophobic conditions. We all had a good time talking football. And perhaps passed around some airport bottles some mystery person seem to have found.....:D However, what impressed me the most about Ducks fans was the Vol walk and salute to the hill. A large number showed up just to watch, and were very respectful of the traditions....not making A*** of themselves, and even clapped for the team as they passed..... Perhaps our mutual hatred of USC will keep us friendly......, I like the fans I have met, and would drink with them anytime, but I still hope we pull an upset and beat them down......no offense.... :D Bringing more "Kiffin Sucks Duck" t-shirts for sale doesn't hurt either.

Our fans are wimps, that's why there's mutual respect. Our fans are too cowardly to stand behind our Vols.

It's easy to find common ground when you both think the Ducks are going to flatten the Vols.

Screw the Ducks - we win by 32.

Vols 56- Ducks 24

In my opinion the ducks are easy to like. They run a crazy and exciting offence and always challenge Bama. Now I know they have class fans too, I respect them even more.

I know we wont be able to knock Bama off, so I am rooting for teams like Oregon so I don't have to witness more Bama national titles. ..

My husband is a Duck, and living out west, it is much easier to go to the Duck games, so I have been to a few. Honestly, I think USC fans are the worse!! ASU fans are a close second. I've been in the Ducks section @ Autzen, and there are a few jerks, but most of the people around those jerks shut them up. I am looking forward to going to Autzen as a proud Vol!!!

I shared some smuggled Jack with an Oregon fan at the game (a very nice guy, by the way). Can you be more hospitable than that?

The Oregon fans were great guests.
