It was an unprecedented situation, with a newly elected President interfering with an ongoing investigation. In hindsight Comey could have handled it better, but he did nothing seriously wrong or illegal. He acted in the country's best interests to disclose to the people that needed to know that Trump was engaged in obstruction under damning circumstances.
