Cooper Leaving

Diamond... Here's that name again. Just don't think she fits in. (just me) It seems every time something off key comes up since she arrived, her name is involved.
However, outwardly Holly just doesn't seem to make a player excited to hang in there. Just some of my thinking. It would really be nice to know the goings on with the whole program. Coaching, players, the whole thing. There must be something besides playing time involved with these transfers. Just not fitting in doesn't get it either. What the he-- is the real problem?

For me it keeps coming back to Holly.....

If things don't work out with this years team... you may not have to worry about Diamond or Holly!!!

I look at Cooper and Middleton transferring as good things. Our staff struggles with managing large rosters. We don't do well with too many options. We try to make everyone happy, substitute at odd times and our teams recently have lacked on-court chemistry.

This clears the way for Westbrook (a true pg) to run the show and Hayes can back her up. It makes me even more excited about next year bc I was worried Cooper or Middleton would start at pg.

Still not sure why so many fans act like a freshman pg is sacrilege. Of course she'll have moments when she makes mistakes but each year freshmen PGs across the nation lead their programs. It's not rare.

I'd like to see your data showing the percentages of freshmen that come in and run the team successfully in their first year. I believe it is rare. When it does happen, there is a lot of publicity. Sabrina Ionescu is one of the exceptional performers as a freshman

Earlier in this thread, someone mentioned Dangerfield to support your position. Dangerfield struggled her first year, had maybe 1 good game. She certainly wasn't leading the team. Also, her predecessor, Moriah Jefferson struggled her first year too. Both these PGs were highly rated.

I believe the most sane thinking is to be hopeful at PG and to be delighted if one of the Freshmen point guards becomes an instant Ionescu.

To your point indicating losing players being a good thing. Whom else do you think it would be a good thing to lose?
Your wishes could come true, given the volume of transfers happening this year.

She wasn't asked back.

Seems considering what Deerpark is saying she wasn't dedicated to playing basketball at Tennessee so her moving on is best for everybody. I didn't think she could beat Westbrooks out for the starting point guard anyway. She could have been valuable as a backup but I saw Westbrooks starting from the day she signed with Tennessee.

I wasn't aware that Cooper has, according to some here, some personal or attitude issues. You have to wonder what the hell she is thinking! I mean, this seems like a very DUMB move by her. We don't know the particulars, but it doesn't make much sense. She just sat out a year with a knee injury. (Did she really have a knee injury? I'm sure she did, but I got a sense when that happened that something wasn't quite right. Warlick didn't seem to know much about the injury--and at the least there seemed a lack of communication. I didn't think she was coming back then.) Now, however, we are not far from the start of the new season. We had a chance to be a very good team. It certainly seemed likely that Cooper would be the starting PG--and now she's leaving? She'll have to sit out at least another year--so two years without playing, and who knows where she'll end up. Where is the wisdom in that? There is none. It sounds like there may have been issues with her from early on, who knows. I think it is bad for her and bad for us. To say that this program has bad mojo would be an understatement. We're back to having depth problems.

So it looks like we will play with Deshields, Nared, Russell, Westbrooks, Hayes, Jackson Davis, KK and Green as the main players. Yet to be determined if Dunbar or Harris have improved to any level to get any minutes.
Anyone that was worried about minutes certainly don't have to worry now.

My gut says this is a difference of "vision" between her and CHW. While I don't think it's a style of play issue, but a legit, this is what CHW wants the offense to look like, and Coop isn't on board. Just my gut, I have no insider knowledge.

Nope. This has nothing to do with basketball.

Agree.... Westbrook will start and if the McDonalds AA game is any indication.... I am good with her ability! Plus we may see her in U19 games.

These players know who can play and who is not a player!!!! Plus good players want to play with each other. But no one wants a rookie taking their place.
Annie wanted Westbrook to come so she could play with her and told her "You can play point and I can play the 2 guard." And if truth be known.... Westbrook verbal probably affected Rennis Davis decision to come also! JMO

Even the most dense posters should get it by now so no need for the rampant speculation. Time to move on. I hope Tea gets things turned around and goes on to have a great life. For those who focus on doom and gloom, same wishes for you as well.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if she's transferring because of Holly et al's social media policy during the season.

Not sure that factors in, but Miss Cooper does love to go live on Insta. That would be a pitiful reason to give for transferring in my opinion. You leave because you're not allowed to post on social media? Dang...if that were the case, I would think priorities need to be in order! That has not been mentioned as part of the reasons I understand are why she is leaving.

It may do everyone some good if you go back and read the Tea Cooper thread posted back on August 3 of 2016.
It's the compliment to this thread .
Good read also.

Most burger ballers don't know diddley (and I don't mean Bo). Players coming in who are deciding who will play what position are in for a rude awakening.

Everybody seems quick to blame team chemistry or personality clashes or not fitting in. The LVs have high standards and demand a lot from the players. Te'a has a lot of outside interests, so perhaps she had difficulty maintaining the focus required to be a student-athlete at UT.

Hate to see her go, but Tennessee isn't for everyone.

Nice to know and I was just stating based on potential relationships with players that she may or may not have developed.

As I stated I wasn't surprised because I notice how after the Christmas break she wasn't at a lot of the home games and Green was and it just seemed ironic that one would be there and the other wouldn't and they are recovering from similar injuries
I read your early posts back from 8/16. You and Armchair was on to something then , far or not far from the truth who knows.

I think this is a BINGO. Sometimes there is nothing more to these situations than a player's priorities changing. May be the knee injury got her re-thinking life goals and so on.

Drama. That is and was the problem with Holly's teams and Pat's last several years. Talented girls who act like girls. Geno wouldn't recruit this personality type.

You obviously have not played AAU ball or in invitational tournaments! These girls will try and get on same AAU team so they can win and have fun . They play with and against each other and watch other teams play so they know each other !!!

Hayes was just telling Westbrook (I want you here to play with me!). Not that they get to pick and choose who and when and what position everyone will play. How stupid of a statement. Annie and Westbrook play point guard and Annie was just saying I don't care about positions. Just please come and play with me at UT. It was a nice jester by a player and you want to turn it into ???? I don't know what

They still have all the parts they need just not really any experience at certain parts. Just means extra work for whoever trains the guards. Plus in the grand scope of things they lost 10+ games with her in the line up and they lost 10+ games with her out of the line up. Fresh start for everyone.

ain't I a stinker? lol

You won't do, gule...you just won't do! 😂😂😂😂

If you get on Instagram and follow Te'a, you'll see quite a lot of her. She especially loves to go live. She's been on today already, as a matter of fact...apparently unaffected by her transfer status.

I’m not a research expert but I was able to compile a list of freshmen from the major conferences who started at point guard last season: Destiny Slocum (Maryland), Sabrina Inoescu (Oregon), Taryn McCutcheon (Michigan State), Kathleen Doyle (Iowa), Tyasha Harris (South Carolina).

Also, here’s a list of returning players last season who started point guard duties as freshmen: Lindsay Allen (Notre Dame), Jordin Canada (UCLA), Ashley Deary (Northwestern), Gabbi Ortiz (Oklahoma), Kelsey Mitchell (OSU), Siera Thompson (Michigan), Teniya Page (Penn State), Janiah McKay (Auburn) and Texas’ Brooke McCarty started about half of her games as a freshman.

I think the team would be much better with a new coaching staff and I wouldn’t be terribly disappointed if DD didn’t return both because she seems to sulk a lot and lacks leadership skills. Don't get me wrong, she's a tremendous talent; I hope she brings those missing ingredients next season.

Plenty of scholarships to give after next season roster will be down to 7. Of course we have two commitments already certainly now need three more.
