Cooper Leaving

In attempting to splice together the implicit and explicit messages in this thread, it seems to me that Warlick IMO is trying to gain control of the team . She hasn't had control; the players have. You want them to take charge of the team, but yielding control is risky. Most times they each ran the same gameplan: ME. Unfortunately that resulted sometimes in 5 different offenses. When their worlds aligned, magnificent wins occurred. When they struggled to mesh, embarrassment ensued. The inconsistency from game to game was glaring and unsettling. Just revisit the threads on here from November to March. Like rollercoasters? There is encouraging individual talent on this team, but only through a commitment to chemistry can consistent team success be realized.

Not speaking of this situation because I don't know but I had a college coach tell me that thing that tears the team up most is the inner squad romances.

I look at Cooper and Middleton transferring as good things. Our staff struggles with managing large rosters. We don't do well with too many options. We try to make everyone happy, substitute at odd times and our teams recently have lacked on-court chemistry.

This clears the way for Westbrook (a true pg) to run the show and Hayes can back her up. It makes me even more excited about next year bc I was worried Cooper or Middleton would start at pg.

Still not sure why so many fans act like a freshman pg is sacrilege. Of course she'll have moments when she makes mistakes but each year freshmen PGs across the nation lead their programs. It's not rare.

Exactly!! Hopefully, one of our freshmen PG's will have a D.Slocum type of year!

Pretty massive loss for the program. I don't know anything about off the court issues, but losing your projected starting PG is a big blow, especially when this seemed to be Tennessee's most complete roster in years. The freshmen have to be as good as advertised for UT to have a shot at the Final Four. Still lots of talent, and for all we knew maybe the freshmen would have beat out Cooper, but losing your only PG with collegiate experience is tough.

On the bright side, maybe chemistry will be better? Time will tell.

You think like a coach.

Drama. That is and was the problem with Holly's teams and Pat's last several years. Talented girls who act like girls. Geno wouldn't recruit this personality type.
Seems like personality conflict issues mostly crop up when the coach is weak. With a strong coach whom the players fear and respect, the players are too busy trying to stay out of trouble with the coach to have other personal issues. Didn't Geno once say, "I don't need any 18 year-old friends.

I am pretty bummed by this news - she started 15 games as a freshman and I figured her to be the starting PG from day 1 come November. I would think it creates a big opportunity for Hayes to step in and not only learn trial by fire, but be better in the long run because of it.

Still, nothing good about it when a player of her caliber leaves the program. And I don't really think it "opens" any PG doors in the future for recruits - we already have Hayes on board and Massengill from 2018 (altho maybe she's more a combo guard?). Not really any other top rated PG's available from 2018 unless we look at players rated right around what Jasmin is rated. Maybe Cristyn Williams will join the Tenn Train?!!!!

Reports of lack of team chemistry among players was not unheard of under Pat. Reportedly The Baby Vols resented Massengale so much she almost left mid season as a freshman. Glory Johnson wasn't really fond of her. This is from family friends of Massengale. Brewer had issues with basically everything. Numerous players from Abby to Spinderella had issues making them want to leave. Coaches can do lots of things but players need to grow up and get tough. No on ever said life is fair, and Pat started the "Tennessee isn't for everyone" not as a compliment to those staying it was aimed at players who quit.

I am really shocked but let's not use this incident to low rate Holly because that would just be wrong. There are a lot of women college basketball players transferring all over the place. I believe with what we have coming in, we will be okay. There have been some very good freshmen point guards that have come in and made a very positive impact. I believe that Westbrook is one of those type of players.

I don't understand players today...strong possible starter wasn't enough or maybe it's really another serious issue

Pulls up a chair...

Are we done as far as you know on transfers?

I don't expect any other player movement.

HW must go now!

So because she dismissed a player for a behavioral issue, that means Holly needs to go? Ok.

I'll say this on the issue and then it's probably best that I step away from the topic. It's incredibly classy for Holly to refer to this situation as a transfer rather than a dismissal.

Lying is classy? Perhaps it wasn't a dismissal.

It is what is done when a player leaves and it is called trying to take the high road. What happened and how it's handled and presented is neither yours nor anyone else's business. People are unbelievable in what they think they are entitled to know.

As a taxpayer, I think I have a right to know. This is a public institution.
