Cory Stanton new PG

Never seen Stanton play. I watched Clemson play last year, but don't remember him. But if he is good enough to back up Golden next year and then be a solid pg when Landry gets here, then you have to think where Washpun figures in. I'm not dogging the kid cause I like his intensity, but he really can not handle the ball at all. I noticed it in the exhibition games this year. I'm shocked that when he's in the game that the other team does not press and trap. You seen what happened when Fl did it. CCM couldn't keep him in the game. I will be very surprised if we do not see a press from every team when he's in the game from now on. Not sure how much you can improve his ball handling skills at this level. For a pg, I would think that would be his one of his strengths, but it's a liability. If Stanton can be a solid backup next year and you have to think about possibly Mitchell coming here, then maybe you look at what schollys are truely not SEC talent.

I would imagine if this kid pans out like a lot of people are saying, Golden goes back to SG and he has a good chance of starting. He's going to be practicing with the team a long time before he's allowed to play, has previous D1 experiance so no reason he cant step in and log major minutes when he's elgible. I do agree that Washpun is not an SEC PG yet. I like his intensity but it would be difficult seeing him ever start or grab major minutes in a game.

WOW! that comes as a complete surprise to me i never would have guessed that. washpun with just about a 2:1 ratio, that is what you want from your pg. as you stated i guess it is just because they seem to come at the most inopportune times that they stick out more than the other players. very surprising to see that.
Golden's is also pretty good at 2:1

i knew goldens was pretty good, who would have thought that he would be leading the sec in assistss, i sure didnt. he too me has been by far the most impressive player on this team, maymon has been a good surprise as well.

he has about as much d1 experience as washpun does and to be honest with you their stats are not that far off, in fact wes actually has better ball handling stats. i think people are jumping to a conclusion too quickly about stanton, i hope he is what everybody thinks i just think people need to look at what he has done. to me there is a good reason why he left clemson in the first place, why didnt he come directly to tennessee from clemson? i dont know maybe i am just too skeptical but to me there is just something there that doesnt add up, unless of course he just isnt as good as people are making him out to be, then it makes perfect sense why he would want to come here.

I can't disagree with that. He changed his body and his game tremendously in the off season. You can tell he put in a LOT of work. (no homo)

that is my main reason as to why i think he comes back and is our starting pg once again next year. i think he knows if he wants to play in the nba he is going to have to be a pg. judging by the work that he was willing to put in during the off-season this last year, i think he will match that work ethic and bust his a$$ to become a better pg.

I agree. Not sure if he has NBA talent or not, but he will be a solid player for us the next 2.5 seasons.

as of NOW he is projected a 2nd round/undrafted that alone is hope for a young man that that is his dream. i believe with his work ethic he will do whatever it is that will give him a legitimate shot to get paid to play professionally. i dont know yet that golden has what it takes to make it in the league either but he is getting noticed so that says something about him.

Let's talk ball handling:
McRae 22 MinPg 23 assists 26 TOs
Washpun 11 MinPg 20 assists 11 TOs

Washpun's ball handling problems have been more noticeable because they've come at inopportune times.

Stats can be misleading. I've only seen him pressed I think twice this year. First in exhibition and then against FL. He was horrible in both games and had to be pulled. He had 4 TOs and 2 assists against FL in 9 minutes. I think I remember that Duke pressed early in the year and they didn't have Washpun bring the ball up the floor while he was in the game.

yea i have been somewhat surprised that more teams have not picked up on that when wes comes in they should press. if i remember right i feel like one of the smaller schools. i find it interesting all of wes' turnovers have come in 4 games, the other 9 games in which he played in he did not record a to. the 4 teams are unc-greensboro, austin peay, etsu, and florida, interesting that 3 or these 4 teams are smaller schools.

I'm not declaring that Martin's recruits are superstars, but it seems that he is very capable of identifying talent.

i dont think stanton would really fall into that category though seeing as how he is nothing more than a walk-on. if ccm was putting a scholarship on the line for him then i would think that this kid obviously must have shown something this staff likes. being a walk-on though he is no different than tyler summitt, just a decent basketball player who can provide a good practice player or scout team player. im not saying thats all he will be but being a walk-on doesnt really mean that ccm is putting his neck out there and evaluating him as a contributor like he would someone who was receiving a scholarship.

as far as ccm evaluating goes though i have been pleasantly surprised so far as to what the guys he have brought in have been able to do. wes and yemi have both really shocked a lot of people, and i would say josh has exceeded or met all expectations of him.

I don't understand why he won't be eligible until next Jan. If he last played the 2nd semester last year, didn't play or even practice with DL in the fall, not playing this semester, then why does he have to sit out the fall semester. It will be 3 semesters since he played at Clemson.

He did not enter school until January and transfers have to sit out a year.

For the guys that haven't seen Landry yet I put up some links to video footage in the Sticky Recruits thread.
Travon Landry is our 013 PG commit.

He enrolled at David Lipscolm in the fall and didn't play or practice. He then enrolled at UT this semester. He will be enrolled at UT the fall semester. That's 3 semesters before he plays next January.

My only guess is that you have to be enrolled at the school you intend to play at for one year before becoming eligible.
