Costco Membership.

Costco is ridiculous. They have done it right. I didn't think I would ever say that I buy a lot of clothes at Costco, but I do. One day I looked up, and I think most of what I was wearing was from there. Undershirts, Lucky jeans, O'Neil shorts, Hollas polo, Age of Wisdom polo, Kirkland polos, quarter zip pullovers...you name it.

I even bought a Kirkland jacket last year, and I have a friend who wore one just like it. His was a name brand (LL Bean or Lands End), and I bet mine was more than half the price.

I can hardly ever go to Costco and get out for less than $100. Heck, their gas prices may even makeup most of that $55 fee.

Medicine (350 generic zyrtec for $15), meat (ground turkey, amazing lamb chops, organic chicken breasts), fruits and veggies (double or triple amount for the price in grocery store), Kirkland eco-friendly detergents/cleaning supplies, almost any Kirkland product (EVOO, organic maple syrup, spices, olives, artichokes, lunch meat, etc), cheeses, golf balls, sunglasses (polarized Ray bans, etc), eyeglasses/contacts.

My wife is the shopper and she says the advantages over Sam's are more healthy and organic options, better quality, and not everything is sold in massive bulk.

I haven't set foot in a Sam's in a while, and I hope I never will. To me, it is like night and day. Sam's is a warehouse. Costco is a quality store which happens to sell in bulk.

I have also read that if you're in the market for.a diamond Costco is one of the best places to go for cost:quality

I've never been to either in my entire life.

I picture oil drums of mayonaise lining the aisles

That's Sam's.

Think: $30 polarized Puma sport sunglasses, boxes of Detour and Oh Yeah bars for half regular price, quality cooking ingredients in triple size for the same price, and, did I mention the lamb chops?

They actually have a limited but reasonably priced collection of fine jewelry (I've really only paid attention to the watches).

It seems like in the last few years, they have gotten into everything. Vacations, insurance...they have had car maintenance for a while. We had tires replaced, and they do tire rotations and pressure checks for free after purchase.

I subscribe to consumer reports who generally rates Kirkland very high.

On their blog they featured Costco diamonds. They had a huge selection. On costcos website they had upwards of a $1,000,000 stone. No joke

They usually have some $100 for $80 gift cards to Fleming's, etc. (which should work at Bonefish, et al), and we got tickets to Biltmore Estate there last year and saved $20-30 bucks.

It's just me and my wife. So it's not like we're feeding a family. We do like savings though and buy in bulk when we can.

Is a Costco membership (only $55 a year) worth it for only two people? We think so, but would love some of y'all's thoughts.

:hi:

you to have a membership for each family member
so make sure you get a card for both

I find myself buying some things at Costco rather than other places just for the return policy.

It's not that different from some places, but its SO much easier.

Costco to me is much nicer than Sam's. I went ahead and got the executive membership to get a% of my money back that I spend. I spend well over the $ for membership and get way more than that in return. Not to mention as stated above the return policy. Also the extended warranties on electronics is pretty much unbeatable.

For us Sams is close and Costco is about 45 minutes away. We would use the Costco in a heartbeat if it was the equidistant.

As for Kirkland brands, they are the exact product as shown in the "Compared to" stickers. So if you look at the Kirkland sensitive teeth toothpaste that compares to Sensodyne but is half the price, it is, in fact, Sensodyne. They aren't generic products or reduced quality, they are the exact same product at a much reduced rate because Costco guarantees huge purchases.

So the Canadian Whiskey is probably Canadian Club with a Kirkland label.

We use their paper towels same as bounty, toilet tissue same as charmin, and laundry detergent same as tide.

Does costco have a contract with Procter and Gamble to manufacture their goods for them? I'd guess they have a lot of setups like that considering what you guys are saying. I'm sold... gonna get the executive.

They have some contracts because they sell Tide and other P&G products. However, I have 3 kids, and they do not sell Pampers, which is P&G. They strictly sell Huggies and Kirkland, which I assume is made by Huggies.

I will tell you this much if you see something you want get it when you see it. Likely it will be sold out if you wait. Case in point. My mother in law wanted a green egg style cooker. Well they had the Kamado Joe brand cookers on sale at a really good price. She didn't go when I told her and they were sold out the next day.

Our family definitely thinks the Costco membership is worth it even though the nearest one is 40 minutes away.

Wife stocks up on a lot of food items. We like the pharmacy prices and also the bakery is better than the local groceries here including Publix. Not a fan of Kirkland beer, however.
