Joined. Shopped. Was great. Thanks for the advice to do it!

Some of you guys seem to have experience with it... So buying steaks there:

I get the choice, prime cuts and all that, but price per pound on a sirloin is about what I can get at publix or Bilo.

Is the quality of Costco a huge difference there?

Don't know about sirloin but I buy filets at Costco. They come on packs of 2-3 lbs. and are cheaper per pound than the grocery store or Fresh Market. I have found the quality to be good for the price. A year or two ago, they were 12.99/lb., but they have gone up to about 14.99 now. You are looking at 19.99 or above at other places.

I just buy the Prime at Costco - Prime sirloin is what Publix charges for NY Strip but I find it as good or better than filet at Publix which goes for 2x the price.

Haven't tried the Prime strip or ribeye but I'm guessing it is worth it.

Otherwise, I don't know if the choice is any different compared to Publix (technically it shouldn't be).

A little off-topic, but the Kroger Marketplace has started carrying some better meats, and they almost always have thick cut prime ribeyes. Not cheap, but about as good a steak as you can find. As infrequently as I eat beef, I like to make it count :)

It's just me and my wife. So it's not like we're feeding a family. We do like savings though and buy in bulk when we can.

Is a Costco membership (only $55 a year) worth it for only two people? We think so, but would love some of y'all's thoughts.

:hi:
Yes, if you buy all of your gas there, you will get more than $55 cash back just on that.

Costco has a pretty impressive wine selection; Sam's doesn't compare.

That is fantastic. I knew Costco had gotten into many areas but did not realize they were involved with the vehicles. Pretty cool.

:hi:

I will be honest - I expected it to be kind of a gimmick. But it wasn't. We went back for groceries for Christmas today and they had a Mercedes on display - they carry nearly all manufacturers. They just cut deals during specific months with one like it was with GM. Usually the manufacturer is pushing hard for sales and has rebates and low interest rates going on with specific models. So Costco gets them to quote their lowest price for its members and the rest you handle direct with the dealer until you finish the sale. Just a great way to buy a vehicle IMO.

Even with the membership I recommend buying meat directly from a farm. Find someone to split a cow. We buy a quarter cow twice a year and get enough meat to last several months. They butcher it into all the cuts you want and we end up paying less than 4 bucks a pound.

My wife got some absolutely monster-sized king crab legs for Christmas dinner. They weren't cheap, but a lot less than the local fish market. Also, she picked up a pack of the lamb t-bones. Looking forward to a couple of great dinners.

We were looking at those king crab legs today, my uncle in Alaska used to send us some every year until our mailman ruined them.

Man, they look fantastic. Honestly, I may have to fire up my propane crawfish boil pot, though, because there is no way they will fit on anything I have for the kitchen stove. I've tried grilling them before, but you have to be careful not to overdo them and I sure don't want to mess these bad boys up!

Haha, yeah, you've got that right. I'm actually a pretty fit guy, bit when I do splurge, I like to make it count. Hope you get to enjoy a couple good meals over Christmas, as well!
