Could a 5-7 UT still make a bowl?

Not to flame, but I am curious:

If UT were to get a bowl invite, would anyone on here really be thrilled about traveling to Birmingham a couple of days after New Year's to watch a 5-7 team take on Pittsburg? Or Shreveport a couple of days before New Year's? Would anyone really dedicate the money to do that? Just curious...

Wouldn't be my idea of a great road trip, but I'm sure they could find 30,000 to attend the game.

I'll bet either of those bowls would LOVE to have TN! JMO

I couldn't care less about the 5-7 record. I think the extra practice would be good. I'd be all for going to a bowl game...but that pesky 8-loss record would be in jeopardy.

That is a concern.

Since UT returned tickets for each away game this year (except Oregon) I'd bet UT wouldn't sell 7000 tickets to a bowl game this year.

UT football is down and a lot of folks aren't going to waste money or holiday time for Shreveport or B'ham.

They're exhibition games. Whats so magical about 6 or 7 or 8 wins? There are so many bowls because they make money. They're like early season basketball tournaments but in reverse.

Bowl games were meant to reward teams for a good year, not to watch Jimmy and Timmy battle it out in Birmingham

They still have that effect. Better season dictates a better bowl invite. I don't think 5-7 or 6-6 teams getting extra practice and going to some garbage bowl cheapens the experience of any of the BCS bowl bound teams.

Dont be a goof - bowls dont give invitations because a team earns it, they do it to make MONEY. The reason you have to earn the bigger bowls is because its bigger money.

And if we could get invited I would not care what bowl it is. Did our team "earn" it? who are you to determine that? I would like the extra practice and exposure it would give (likely help on keeping those star recruits). Also, while the seniors have not exactly wowed me this year, I would like them to have a bowl just for having to have endured Kiffin/Dooley coaching that may have destroyed any chances they had to become great.

A bowl invite is meant to be a reward. What type of reward does our team deserve for having a losing season. Since we're getting personal and all with "who am I" type BS. You must be one of those people that believe that everyone should be a winner and everyone gets a trophy just for playing. Winning is awesome and losing sucks but it builds unity and character of a team. Our team shouldn't be rewarded for a losing season and besides it doesn't matter what fans think there are too many 6-6 team than there are bowl games so UT won't be playing in a bowl this year.

No 5-7 teams deserves a bowl. Period.

He!!, I don't think 6-6 teams even deserve it. 7-5 is even a stretch. Its supposed to be a reward for a successful season not a prize handed out for mediocrity.

We'll know shortly. Are the odds slim to none? I'd say they're none to "You've gotta' be kidding!

I actually would be okay with it. I mean we could of backed out of Oregon and just played another cupcake and we'd be 6-6. I'm sure UT vs someone will be a better match up than some of the 6-6 teams out there.

Lower level bowls are for 2 things:

1.) A big check for lower tier FBS teams

2.) So the AD, family and friends get a free vacation and get wined and dined by the bowl reps.

Thats it!

WE NEED a bowl for the extra practice and EE's.

It's fun to speculate, but really don't see it happening. :banghead2:

Well put. Outside of the BCS Bowls, they're all irrelevant.

hey, us beating ky is akin to Dartmouth St beating Dover CC to get into March madness. Maybe we just punched out ticket to the Eskimo Pie bowl in Fargo 2 weeks prior to Christmas.

I could care less about a bowl game honestly but the extra practices would be nice for this team.

You would think all teams would get those extra practices especially since the worst teams need them the most.

i think all teams should be allowed the extra practice too,but it is part of the reward for being bowl eligible
