Could an Obama presidency hurt black Americans?

. As white people we do have a checkered past.

I don't believe that the sins committed by white people 150 years ago, 40 years ago, or even yesterday should be laid on my shoulders as if I bear a measure of responsibility. I don't believe in collectivism in any way, and that includes collective guilt. I am not perfect, and I've had my share of incidences where I've said or thought something that was bigoted or even racist, but my thoughts and actions are my own and I take responsibility for them. I refuse to accept responsibility for anybody else's actions.

did they think the white guys were trying to find brides? Their African ancestors profited very much off of the trade. It's no excuse but they can't wash their hands of it either.
Main point to me is to just keep in mind we have NO IDEA what it is like to have a history like that and DO NOT know how we would view things today.

What the Africans did or do should not impact the way black people were treated when they arrived.

Yes, very true. It could have been worse for them though. If they had ended up anywhere but America they would have had a much worse chance at surviving, those in America were treated much more humanely that anywhere else. It DOES NOT excuse the practice, just pointing out a fact.

I agree and good post but I do see why they could be more sensitive to the world.

and there's not a single person alive who was a slave or owned one. As a white person I feel zero connection to slave owners as I took no part in it and I won't feel guilty for something I have no control over. There are groups in history that suffered much more but still don't play their card as much.

ask yourself how much anger there still is in the Jewish community over the holocaust and whether they've moved past it to better their lives. Now why can 1 group do it but not the other? Not saying forget it but there is a time to let go, heal and move on.

when was the last time water cannons were used against a civil rights protest?

the politics of grievance is a failing, dying strategy, Jesse Jackson is proof of that.

To answer the thread question, yes it will hurt them. Obama is all about government assistance. It will hurt them and many others.

Yes but Jews don't hold the people of today's Germany responsible. They know the people there did not have anything to do with the terrible things done to them.

there are plenty of Jews living in Germany, but even there isn't a single one, what is your point? That blacks should leave the US?
America mistreated blacks!
Germany mistreated Jewish!
Why would Jewish people say they are being held back in America?

If you show any Nazi belief in Germany now you can get in BIG trouble!
I bet America still has more racist over blacks than Germany over Jewish.
