Could Dobbs and Hurd...

Marshall was initially going to be a DB and has 4.4 speed. Dobbs isn't even close to that.

Hurd and Mason aren't comparable either.

Marshall is an elite runner no doubt.

Dobbs showed very good flashes of being a difference making runner as well.

Dobbs will never be as explosive but dobbs very easily could evolve into an upper tier runner as well.

... one day be Tennessee's version of Nick Marshall and Tre Mason or Braxton Miller and Carlos Hyde?

I think if Dobbs is definitely "THE GUY" moving forward, then he can certainly be a better passer than Marshall. A runner? No. Hurd? Just hope he is 100% by next year.

Somebody reported a QVol81 sighting on this thread :search:

If Dobbs is smart in his reads he can be an "efficient" runner. The other two QB's mentioned are MUCH better pure athletes and runners than Dobbs. They are capable of taking from a defense, not merely capitalize on what they're given.

I can't say much about Hurd yet. On paper it's all there...really hope it translates to the next level.

1/2 of the equation works=Hurd. Dobbs, not so much. What we had this year was our 4th string QB starting because everyone else was hurt. Do not see Dobbs playing much once Worley and Fergusen get back.

So Worley gets better and Dobbs don't ? Ferguson is also better than Dobbs even though he has yet to take a snap ? Don't count Dobbs out. If Dobbs improves on his passing then he is going to be hard to beat out. But to crown Ferguson as a starter is a joke. The only place I heard Dobbs was 4th string was on Volnation. Regardless of where Dobbs was , he is going to be hard to beat out.

Been thinking the same thing.

What other 2 QBs are better runners ? Worley is not a better runner than Dobbs ? You had to hold a gun to Worleys head to make him run. Nobody has any proof is Ferguson can run or not . Unless you are talking about his high school film. I want the best QB on the field but to think Dobbs don't have a chance is dumb. If Ferguson got thrown into the fire as a freshmen, I don't think he would of did any better as Dobbs.

Not to say Dobbs can't improve or even turn out to be the guy but I repeatedly heard, from many sources, that if Ferguson had been healthy when Worley went down he'd have been the one coming off the bench first.

Einstein was brilliant but probably would have sucked at QB. I'm not saying Josh won't succeed or be awesome, only that just because he is smart doesn't mean he will be great.
Maybe not, but having better than average intellect certainly seems to help Stanford athletes, and to some extent even Vandy. They were always under-talented...even now, under Franklin. They are still undersized at the OL and DL position...and their classes rarely sniff a 4* commit.

Standford hasn't out-recruited us the past 5yrs, but they are not only well coached, but the players play smart.

Who knows but CBJ is not finished with this recruiting class and he's after '14 UF's highly rated Dual Threat QB commitment Will Grier. So in other words who knows what our roster will look like next year. We are in it for several more top talented recruits.

Well I can play that game of repeated sources said Dobbs was better than Ferguson. Which I took with a grain of salt. Somebody is always trying to build the next guy in line up. Nobody has a clue how good or bad Ferguson will be until he is in the line of fire. If Ferguson is the man and pulls a Peterman against Fla then the same ones crowning him will be the same ones tearing him down.

No game, you said this:

I had heard otherwise from far more sources than just VN...nothing more, nothing less.

Marshall is faster than Dobbs. Dobbs is a better passer. Dobbs, Fergie or whoever should not waste their running talent with so many good weapons to throw and hand off to. An occasional run to keep the defenses honest or to get out of a sack should be all the running that is required.
